Yep that works. I spoke to them in my native Aussie accent. Sometimes I used a very royal English accent too. Both worked wonders.

But I never got angry at them. IMHO that is like shaking the hornets nest. Some of theose telemarketers feed on pissed off people.

i used to be nice and listened for a minute or two before the "not interested".

now i have my landline on mute and a voicemail message saying something like "i decided to not use the landline anymore. if you are interested in contacting me please write an email to somemadeupemail@gmail.com"

that email account forwards to my regular gmail and is automatically put in a label and removed from the inbox such as to not have high priority

a friend says that he tells the person he is getting his insurance stuff or pencil or sth else, puts the telephone away and go about his business (tv, cooking etc). because the call is still going on it wastes that person's time and he is less likely to call again

Normally I just press the green button quickly followed by the red and put the phone back on its stand. Sometimes I sit it next to the TV so they can listen to that for a while and waste their time. Once, however, when the caller asked for me by name, I said " no, I'm sorry, she died yesterday". The woman didnt miss a beat. She said "never mind I'll talk to you then" and carried on with her spiel. These people have no shame!

I also had a call not just on my home phone on a Saturday afternoon but on mobile phone as well from the number 041 2492496.

You will have a very short conversation if you tell them one of two things:
that your employer provides your health insurance
or that you have a pre-existing condition.

LOOOL..these guys are still at it!! If you want them to get the hint not to phone again then persist they give you the following details.

1. Their full name ( you can tell them you would like to write this down)
2. The company they are phoning for. ( by now they are getting a bit quiet)
3. Their full company address. ( you will be asked what you want this for I am sure)
4. If you are lucky to get all this information then write it down and tell them that you have first a few questions for them for a survey you are doing for your EF.

Have fun if you are able to get them so far, mostly by me they hang up after I ask them for their name or get told it aint important. Where I then answer, neither are my answers to you and hang up.

Since I gave up my landline 5 or so years ago, I save money and I haven't gotten a telemarketing call since.

Hahahaha that's unbelievable; both your claiming you died the day before and her continuing her call no matter what.

I had several calls coming in with an obviously faked caller ID number. When I did pick up the phone (after they had called about 10 times when I wasn't home), the caller claimed to be from "Windows Technical Support" for my computer. He spoke English with a distinctly eastern accent (I assume the call was coming from India or Pakistan via VoIP) and tried to convinced me to download a remote-control software from some website so that he could "take control of my PC to make sure that it is configured correctly".

After playing along for a few minutes, I changed my tone and told him that I am a computer scientist and that NO ONE gets remote access to my computer, and that he should never call my number again.

I reported the incident to the police, who simply said that there is nothing they can do, as the calls are originating outside of Switzerland and can't be traced.

The guy who called me spoke high German and said he represented the "Gesundheitsdienst der Schweiz", so the Swiss health services (but it does not exist). I told him that my telephone book entry has a star, so he should not call me, and that what he was doing is illegal. He protested, but I said "Ciao".

I think I gave some incorrect information here. According to the police in Zug, the number 041 249 2496 is not in service, meaning that the caller has falsified the ID. Sorry about that.
