Re: Radio in the office

in one company i have worked for, colleagues used to listen to radio also. i asked them very politely to turn it off twice, but they haven't.

So i started to put in time-sheets the radio as reason for additional time why am i doing some of the tasks longer. it worked perfectly, our time-sheets has been read on daily basis, so next they radio was taken by manager

BUT my point, this was also working with some assholes speaking half of the day so loudly, that their voices were recognized after 2 - 3 walls (unfortunately i was sitting next to them), so my time-sheets started looking like:

5h trying to clean up procedure ... not done because Mr. X and Y discussing topics..

after few weeks they have been quite like dead, and never again speaking with me

Re: Radio in the office

I like the swiss radio. Here there are 2 radios that I like, one is a official one, the other a private one. They don't repeat songs, they have low advertising. In Italy it's pure hell, 5 songs all day, 5 minutes of music 5 minutes of ads.

Anyway I'd find a radio on all day unacceptable in a office.

Agree, I can't understand how any kind of music could increase productivity. Either silence or let people play their own music for themselves only.

Somewhat tangential to this discussion, but...

Before my present incarnation as a dilettante trailing spouse, I used to earn my crust o' bread in market research - which sometimes spilled over into other areas of behavior research. One of the more interesting projects - in a Dr. Evil sort of way - I worked on was tracking the effects of music on productivity, behavior and morale within an office setting.

What we found was that the typical 80s easy-listenin' mixes so univerally loathed actually had the most measurable positive effect on productivity.

In the 20 somes years since then I have tried to turn my life around and do a bit of good in this world, in penance for my part in condemning those poor souls to an 8 hour day filled with George Michael.

you are referring here to an office environment?

Yep - it was a large MNC, looking at environmental influences on typical 'cubicle farm' productivity in 6 offices across the US.

Hell of a fun project.

Awful places to work.

anybody else work in an office with a radio on? I have to listen to DRS3 all day long and it is driving me crazy!
although DRS3 is one of the less bad radio stations, thank god I don't have to listen to it...I assume you work in an office so you should ask them to turn it off...
