Re: Rant about assisted suicide in elderly care in Vaud

When I read threads like this, I am glad that: A) I am fortunate enough to live in a country where the rule of law governs, and not some wacko fanatic (of any religion); and B) People are democratically called to express their preferences by voting, and their preferences are taken into consideration for real (not some fake voting).

I personally don't care about the laws of country whatever, I mean, I care from a human point of view, but I don't live there and I never will, thank you. See points above.

Back on topic: Odile has already given very detailed and precise links to the law. From what I read, there are certain limitations and criteria to be able to make the PERSONAL CHOICE, assisted by the law, to terminate one's life. Knowing I have this legal choice is all I need to know, right here in the country where I choose to reside, and I can choose to make this choice or not. Any religious consideration is IMO totally irrelevant as a public mean in a country where the rule of law prevails- religion, faith, call it whatever, is a private matter for each one of us, not a policy-making instrument.

Indeed. As should be anyone's ability to have an opinion on such laws.

Waste of time. They can't cook.

The religious argument against suicide usually contains nothing more than "God wants you to live naturally, and to suffer when nature intended. Your life is not yours to do what you want". But when it comes to taking medicine and/or medical procedures to prolong life the argument magically vanishes.

You don't read very well. You said that there is only heaven & hell and nothing in between. There is fact IS some place in between.

I don't care about the LAWS of your country. The laws of your country don't send people to heaven or hell or in between.
Well u seem to be learned..please elaborate further, I could learn a few things from you.

No, no! The only thing u seem to do is pin point my grammatical errors, which is fine, then you go ahead and twist my personal views about hell/heaven into religious matter.
I have not mention anything about religion, only my point of view and gay laws.

I can educate you, but I will not go down that road..

Re: Rant about assisted suicide in elderly care in Vaud

my father actually does this. He was one of 3 first people in the world to do it legally (Belgium)
He claims it is one of the most satisfying things he has done to relieve the people from their misery and pain. and let them go with their dignity intact
I have one member of the family who went that way (cancer) and someone else that will be set free soon (alzheimers)

So it is great to see more and more countries are following suit and letting people decide when it is time (mostly this process still takes weeks/months to "fullfill" all the criteria
