finding a good handyman in Basel is hard work! (RANT)

i do not usually complain about people, i always give the benefit of the doubt but the latest events really drove me mad!

just to cut the story short, I have been looking for a handyman for more than a month. I have used the search function here on the forum, read the feedbacks and contacted the most recommended handymen.

Some did not bother to reply to my PM, others took more than a week to answer (but it's not a problem, i understand people is busy and have limited access to mail), few are charging more than 100 chf just to come to my house (still no issues here, it's the market baby...)

However at the end I managed to get Richard, who has nice feedbacks here.
He came once to my place, attached a light to the ceiling although it did not work properly, a buzz was coming out of it.
"it's the switch, i'll change it when I come back" he said, "cool" i replied "check your agenda and book your time for me". So the day after I sent him an email asking for another appointment, which he could book only for 2 weeks later.

So i decided to wait these 2 weeks although i had all the stuff laying around the house and could not invite people over for dinner as the light did not work, but I assumed he could come and do a good job.
So the big day is coming, I am expecting him at 11 am...then 11:15...11:30 and still no signs of him. So i txt him to ask what the story is and he replied "sorry i have your appointment down for 3pm, however I am sick and I cannot leave the house until i get better"... OK, I understand he was sick but he could still let me know he was not coming, at the end I was waiting for him for the last 2 weeks.

2 days later and still no news from him, so I did send him another txt "i hope you are well, please let me know when you can come over". This was last Saturday, today is almost THursday and no reply whatsoever.

So Richard the brit handyman just let me down like that! I was pissed!

So i had to look for another handyman with short notice and everyone was booked for the next 2 weeks... Fortunately I have managed to get this guy over and he did a brilliant job!
and guess what? the light that Richard installed is defective, there is nothing wrong with the switch. I have to return it although more than 1 month from the purchase is gone. I could have done it on time if Richard spotted it and if he didnt make me wait 2 weeks for nothing.

BTW this is another lesson learned, never trust 100% positive feedbacks as some people can really prove them wrong.

end of the rant.
