Show me a rubbish strewn Swiss village then
First, you show me a Swiss person living on $5 a day or less?

Agreed - especially since you're being booted. Of course, there is the issue of previous landlord reference when renting a new place...
I suspect the OP has not been booted at all, the owners just want to sell. Once the flat is sold then notice will be given, the owners don't want a void of possibly a couple of years.
I would not allow viewing or would charge 100 per hour, any extra cleaning as well.

Well that's conclusive evidence then, based on an exhaustive study of, er, your laundry room which clearly represents the state of cleanliness in all Swiss buildings built since the rise of Zwingli.

Re: Clean Swiss, dirty foreigners..I am so cross

I'm sure it was very satisfying giving the landlady a mouthful but i guess she'll find it equally satisfgying when it comes to key, cleaning & deposit handover.

Pissing the landlady off when you know you are moving out is maybe not the smartest thing to do.....

But i can understand why you did it !

Do you want to talk about stereotypes? I just read the average Swiss person has sex only once a week.

Have you ever thought there might be a bit to the claim it is the foreigners? Travel to Asia, India, the Arab countries and the one common theme is that they are filthy places where the locals show no respect to their environment. Just got back from Indonesia and the place is simply one big garbage tip. Cairo is another cess pit and then you have India....
I have friends from these countries and they are embarrassed by it. The Swiss and the other European countries in the north are generally very clean, orderly and disciplined societies. Simple fact and I am all or it.

Clearly, your view of Asia, India etc is from the tour bus window. Haven't been in too many homes there have you?. Just so you understand, refuse disposal is a job for the local government and in some of the countries you mentioned it is truly woeful. Now, that doesn't mean you can paint all the citizens with your dirty foreigner paint brush.
I see you are living in Canberra, I wonder what your opinion of the "boat people" is. I reckon that might display your true colours.

Re: Clean Swiss, dirty foreigners..I am so cross

When we first moved to Basel, we visited a lot of apartments and I saw not a single one to the Swiss "cleanliness" standard, and all of them were rented by Swiss people.

There is not a Swiss standard of cleaning. If it was so, they wouldn't need a rule and deposit, etc. if it is used it is most probably because of a reason, the owners had enough to spend money on cleaning after tenants.

Wait until you get told off for hanging your washing up like a "Chingg"
The correct manner is: big square things on one line, miss a line, little square things and then the underwear tucked discretely in-between.

You should have seen her face when I said "well the Romans were in Britain for quite a while".
