Re: Clean Swiss, dirty foreigners..I am so cross

Swiss people are generally clean - if you ignore, like they do, cigarette butts. Which they leave everywhere.

Apparently, Swiss people can't see them, and will trumpet on about their cleanliness while standing on a mountain of them on the pavement, in their garden, in a car park, on a windowsil..

And yes, this is Swiss people throwing them everywhere as well as the foreigners.

Re: Clean Swiss, dirty foreigners..I am so cross

The first two flats I saw here were in terrible condition, and both Swiss tenants.

The first smelled of stale smoke and had stains up the walls, the second was a complete pigsty. I mean crusty, dirty dishes piled up in the sink etc plus massive holes in the doors etc. The agency asked me if I would take it "as is"!!!

So the general conclusion, "piggery" is not a national trait, just a human one.

Yes, definitely. When we were looking for apartments, the best maintained and the worst (it was horrible, really) were both rented by Swiss people.

Do you want to talk about stereotypes? I just read the average Swiss person has sex only once a week.

And that's only because they do it out of guilt.
No, I'm sure there a law about not doing it after 10pm.

And they'll be a weekly rota, although I think that might be for the laundry room...

Well that's conclusive evidence then, based on an exhaustive study of, er, your laundry room which clearly represents the state of cleanliness in all Swiss buildings built since the rise of Zwingli.
when you're paying out the wahzoo for rent for an already old and ugly apartment, shouldn't you expect the common areas to be up to the "Swiss standard" of cleanliness?

I never claimed to have done an exhaustive study- this is something I noticed in my building that has a Swiss landlord

it goes back to the OP's issue- if the Swiss want to generalize about the cleanliness of foreigners then they should live up to their own standards

that's all

Show me a rubbish strewn Swiss village then
The problem is that many foreigners come to Switzerland and think that it is the Swiss responsibility to "pick up after them and accept their bad habits." People bring their habits with them from wherever they come from. The Swiss have a reputation as a "clean country" because of the Swiss not because of foreigners. It is the Swiss culture that has Switzerland at the status it has around the world, not because of foreigners. The Swiss are the people who have to "tidy up" behind those who do not respect the culture.

Of course, there are some Swiss who may not have the cleanliness of many of the others, but overall the Swiss are a hygienic culture, and now some "foreigners" are getting upset because they should do likewise.

I remember I met a person from a certain country, which I will not name, and I could see clearly how they brought their bad tacky, uncultured habits with them and this person considered themselves "educated."

Is that a quote, if yes from whom?.. or do you use the quotation marks because deep inside you, you know that you are stretching all reasonable frame of wild speculation, approximative generalization and mean allegations? Genuin question.

In my all-Swiss building (I am the only foreigner), there was an illegal bike parked inside by the entrance for over a year. There is now a sign "Velo parkieren verboten" (bike parking prohibited).

See: At least one Swiss in this country has been reprimanded for untidiness.

Re: Clean Swiss, dirty foreigners..I am so cross

When I arrived here, I looked at 4 apartments.

First one was yellow with nicotine - walls, ceiling, doors.. Previous tenant was a local woman who had lived there for 30 years.

Second one had a filthy kitchen and a broken kitchen drawer. The lounge carpet was disgustingly marked with spilled drink and general grie. Previous tenant was a local student.

Third one was clean inside the apartment, (local tenant) but filthy and unkept in th eentrance to the building and outside, included a tatty overgrown garden. Local owner.

5th one, was imaculately clean inside and out. I pulled the rent and deposit out of my pocket and clinched the contract on the spot. Local owner.

Personally, I think people are people . Some are clean, some are not, whatever the nationality.

Oh...I see so you found "1" Swiss being reprimanded. I guess you really had to dig into your hay stack to find that one..LOL Overall, what I wrote in my post stands. The Swiss are known as a "clean culture" because of the Swiss and foreigners want to put "everything" on the Swiss that goes wrong because they are in Switzerland! Foreigners have a responsibility to "get their sh%$t together too."

Re: Clean Swiss, dirty foreigners..I am so cross

Nationality has nothing to do with it, you're either clean or you're not it is that simple.

I suppose foreigners are also responsible for all the graffiti too and no it's not art the stuff I've seen here in Zurich

Re: Clean Swiss, dirty foreigners..I am so cross

You cannot deny that certain nationalities carry certain traits with them..plain and simple. That does not have to be a bad thing though. But I have found through my travels in different countries that some places are cleaner than others, and it has PLENTY to do with the nationality.

This is why Geneva is having certain problems now that the Swiss are currently working on because of certain "nationalities" and their bad habits.
