That does not have to be a bad thing though. But I have found through my travels in different countries that some places are cleaner than others, and it has PLENTY to do with the nationality.
This is why Geneva is having certain problems now that the Swiss are currently working on because of certain "nationalities" and their bad habits. | | | | | There is a say in Germany among the Turkish community which says:
Give Istanbul to the Germans, they will make it efficient and clean. Give Berlin to the Turks and everything will start going wrong. | The following 3 users would like to thank Nil for this useful post: | |

The whole reason I got hired and ended up in Zurich was because there was no-one here who could do my job, fancy that no-one local had the skills to do the job I'm doing WOW! who would ever believe that.

So frankly, perceptions are all so true to those who perceive and that 's fair enough.... but nothing beyond.

I think we are mixing up a fews things. How "clean" people keep their houses on a day to day basis, and the fact that during turnover the apartment is scrubbed clean (unless you accept to take it as is).
Also, old kitchens, etc are just that. It doesn't mean "unclean". I've seen a lot of spotless 60s toilets in my house hunting days!
Our house has an 80s kitchen that I would love to rip out. But that fact is it's pristine. (well, it was when we go it. ) I had someone over to get a quote to change the work tops and was like "why? It's in perfect condition". Which is true. It's just ugly.
I know plenty of Swiss people who live in "normal" states of cleanliness. IE, they aren't turning the apt over for inspection.
The issue of trash outside is a different issue.

Some are better than others but have you ever been to an Indian public facility? The ones I have been to make the toilet out of Trainspotting look pristine.

I think, people like you should not travel to the developing countries. Some people get instant gratification in the poor plight of others(places n people) and it seems you are one of them. Do you have any idea what the volume of traffic the Indian trains handle? I guess it would be interesting to see how the developed countries would manage with similar number of people and same cultural complexities.
I have lived in Switzerland for six years and I completely agree with many other posters, that cleanliness is just not a Swiss thing, it is a personal trait, nothing to do with nationality.
PS : No need to travel to the cess point India again, you are not fit to nor invited.

If you don't give respect you wont get it in return too.

| | Re: Clean Swiss, dirty foreigners..I am so cross | Quote: | | | | | Have you ever thought there might be a bit to the claim it is the foreigners? Travel to Asia, India, the Arab countries and the one common theme is that they are filthy places where the locals show no respect to their environment. Just got back from Indonesia and the place is simply one big garbage tip. Cairo is another cess pit and then you have India....
I have friends from these countries and they are embarrassed by it. The Swiss and the other European countries in the north are generally very clean, orderly and disciplined societies. Simple fact and I am all or it. | | | | | It may come as a surprise to you, but showing "no respect" to the "environment" doesn't equal showing no respect to the houses people live in. I don't know how many private homes you've ever been visiting in the places you mention. Many countries just lack the necessary infrastructure for collecting the garbage at very regular times, or for properly disposing and managing the said garbage. If here or elsewhere in the Western world local authorities wouldn't spent so much money to effectively deal with this problem and clean the streats, I bet you'd soon come to the conclusion that human behaviour, especially in big crowds, it's pretty much the same everywhere.
I personally find the Swiss to be as clean as everyone else, but making a lot of fuss about their cleanliness...
Oh well, someone else mentioned the same things. | Quote: | | | | | I know plenty of Swiss people who live in "normal" states of cleanliness. IE, they aren't turning the apt over for inspection.

| | Re: Clean Swiss, dirty foreigners..I am so cross | Quote: | | | | | Swiss people are generally clean - if you ignore, like they do, cigarette butts. Which they leave everywhere.
Apparently, Swiss people can't see them, and will trumpet on about their cleanliness while standing on a mountain of them on the pavement, in their garden, in a car park, on a windowsil..
And yes, this is Swiss people throwing them everywhere as well as the foreigners. | | | | | You refer here to the minority of smokers. The majority of NON-smokers detest cigarette butts, do not leave cigarette butts anywhere, see them, do not stand on them, and do not throw them as they have none. | Quote: | | | | | The whole reason I got hired and ended up in Zurich was because there was no-one here who could do my job, fancy that no-one local had the skills to do the job I'm doing WOW! who would ever believe that. | | | | | -
Those others already HAD a job. I fancy that they got the better jobs, and you simply were hired by a company who either did not pay enough or did not offer satisfactory conditions !
