car damage in car parks.....

We have lived in CH for just over a month and shipped our cars from the US and so far someone keyed the door of my merc in the supermarket car park, someone put a really big bag on the bonnet of the Lexus and left loads of scratches and today my husband went to London and left his porsche in the airport car park and someone drove into it and didn't leave a note....is it the US plates, jealousy or just an absolute disregard for other peoples property.

Before I get comments about the three car situation.... we bought the SUV to go on golf holidays in Europe etc and for when we have visitors... I bought my little SLK as I like driving a small car and hubby always wanted a 911 and bought one while we were living in the US they were significantly cheaper there than they are here.... however now we are thinking about selling all three and buying some shitty 2nd hand crap that we don't have to get resprayed on a monthly basis...

Re: car damage in car parks.....

As you have probably read recently in the news, the US government has been interfering in how the Swiss banks run their business. Many Swiss people are very annoyed with what they see as interference in their sovereign rights to keep their bank secrecy intakt. With US car plates you are encouraging the natives to take their revenge.

You might avoid more problems if you imported the cars, with Swiss plates they might be stolen, but probably not vandalised.

well we are getting the lexus 'converted' and registered here at the same time as the bodywork re spray.....but its very upsetting that we are being made into 'victims' because we took advantage of moving back to CH to buy cars we wouldn't otherwise be able to afford....

Re: car damage in car parks.....

It might just be that people are just feckin' clumsy. Added to that, the parking spaces are tiny which doesn't help if people are driving anything bigger than a Smart car.

Our last car was dinged a few times but, so far, our latest car (3 years old) has only had one tiny scratch on the door. Amazing!

I've seen people park appallingly in car parks and I shudder each time I come back to the car and see the neighbouring car has a kiddie seat on the side next to us - big risk of a door ding!

All I can advise to the OP is to park in a remote place of a car park or try to find a space on an end or next to a wall or tree which you can squeeze up to so it gives the car next to you as much space as possible.

Re: car damage in car parks.....

Around here, people don't worry about scratches in their vehicles, it's part of life.

If you like, I can take some pictures tomorrow of several AMGs at work, it ain't pretty (nor are my Ducatis, can take pictures of those, too).

I feel your pain.

These days I leave the Veyron's at home and....

take the helicopter instead...

Bit embarrasing for the kids on the school run.

Sigh. Yes, it's all an anti-US conspiracy.

Either that, or the OP has been unlucky -- though that wasn't given as an option.

Re: car damage in car parks.....

may i ask how is your parking?

if you demonstrate any of the parking "styles" shown on www.yplac.com then thats your answer for the damages

dont click if you are easily offended or feel like writting letters about anything offensive.

i see quite a few badly parked cars with shopping trolley rash, and quite rightly so.

unlucky maybe - but 3 times in one month !!!

also the keying was clearly deliberate... its near the handle just below the window.......

re- our parking, as I am a brit and hubby swiss we are used to smaller parking spaces and usually do try to get a parking space next to the wall / end of the row etc....

This reminds me of this joke:

Arab student sends an e-mail to his Dad saying:

Dear Dad,
Berlin is wonderful, people are nice and I really like it here, but
Dad,
I am bit ashamed to arrive to my college with my Gold Mercedes, when
all my Teachers travel by train.

Your Son

Nasser

Sometime later Nasser gets reply to his e-mail from his Dad:

Loving son,
Twenty Million Dollars transferred to your account, please stop
embarrassing us, go and get yourself a train too.

Your Dad

Re: car damage in car parks.....

A couple of weeks ago, by wife's leased car (Kia, basic transportation for the summer, nothing special), got intentionally keyed all the way down the driver's side while it was in long term parking at Heathrow. It had local tags, so the only thing that I can figure is that it was a completely random event, or someone thought that it was parked too close to the edge of the space.

Stuff like that happens, not much you can do about it.
