Well if you are upset with mixed beer and alcohol content... you can always go get the world famous strongest here in the world... Samichlaus Bier from Austria with a 14% alcohol content *cheers*

Are you sure you are a real aussie, first you say you like Feldschossen which admitted is better then Fosters, now you say you like Italian beer.

I could understand if you said you like Italian wine but their beer is not really what they are known.

If you want to go to another country then go to France and buy "Leffe" in a big supermarket, its a Belgium beer and it is the real stuff not lolly water as it starts at 6% and goes to around 9% depending on which sort you get. It will also be way cheaper then the expensive beer you are used to in Australia
Born and bred mate. Lived in Brussels for three years and know the Belgian beers. Used to drink Leffe quite often and it iis fine. Duvel another one with high alcohol content.

OK, one week in to living in Geneva. Weather be beltingly good, quite warm. I am quite happy with the local beer Feldschlossen and grabbed an ice cold one out of the fridge.

Knocked the top off, took a swig and nearly died.

Attachment 47778

Some idiot has taken perfectly good bear and mixed it with lemonade (in Oz we call it a shandy). NOT GOOD especially when to a newcomer it is not that obvious on the label. Feldschlossen should be tried for this affront to humanity.
Panaché is what you had. The same beer also is around without alcohol.

Serves you right its obvious what it is as it has the words PANACHE on it which any sensible person should know is not BEER. And yes you are correct it is a shandy no need for a warning just learn not to buy without looking

If you are happy with Feldschosen beer then you also have not been here long enough since there is much nicer beers around. You really need to look further north for the good beers
A word in his defence. Geneva does NOT have a "local beer" but has its local wine which is the Gamay de Genève and only too often, the Panaché beers are just in the same place as the real beers. And for beer I might mention the Kronenbourg from Strassburg which IS good and in fact is avaiable throughout France

I am switching brands. Any suggestions?
Yes: anything but Feldschlösschen. Although a tour around their brewery is a fun afternoon for a company outing.

In England it's known as piss!
This is rather irrelevant for the OP. What is troublesome is that Panachés are stored in the same shelves as real beer and the marking IS meagre

Go to Germany and try a Spätburgunder Weissherbst the German Rosé which is absolutely delicious

Loved Peroni back in Oz and it is now a very widespread and popular beer. Haven't seen it in the shops here for some reason. Might whip to ITA and fill the boot up with some.
Peroni is around here everywhere. But again, Geneva is a WINE country

Heard about this, but never had it. Whatever, Wines in Geneva are cheaper and better than overhere. Geneva generally is more expensive than Zürich, but the wines are cheaper and better

yes, why the complaint about Panache, when you were expecting Feldschlossen gnat's piss? Back in oz do you drink XXXX and Fosters? Per AnAustralian's notes Schutzengarten and Ittinger are much better, and then there are quite a few micro-breweries that do decent brews.

PS. You can see the feldschosslen brewery from the train between Basel and Zurich - curiously distinctive building.

we're in Zurich, and I absolutely love Feldschloessli for hot summer days. if you can find them, try Quöllfrisch or Einsedler. we also dig Baarer, but that is I think a local brewery out of the Zug area.
So, they guy who laughs at British food loves Feldschlossen, one of the worst beers in the world. Say's it all I guess.

I don't think it's a real castle, just that the brewery is designed to look a bit like one.

It's not from Austria, it's from Zurich (Hurlimann), but it is now brewed in Austria since Fledschlosschen sold of the rights after closing down Hurlimann after they bought it.

To the west, on a hill outside the city is Feldschlösschen, the seat of the Feldschlösschen Getränke AG and still a brewery. Built from 1882, the factory buildings are in the style of a medieval castle. The elegant art-deco-style brewery is well worth a visit. Beer is still delivered to the surrounding area in old traditional style, with Switzerland’s only six-span of Belgian dray horses.

Veloland

There are seven sites in Rheinfelden that are listed as Swiss heritage sites of national significance. Two religious buildings are on the list, the Christian Catholic collegiate church of St. Martin and the Johanniter Chapel at Johannitergasse 70. Three fortifications are on the list; the Heimenholz and the Pferrichgraben which were both part of the old Roman era Rhine fortications and the entire medieval city wall. The last two buildings on the list are the Feldschlösschen brewery at Feldschlösschenstrasse 34 and the former Gasthof (combination hotel and restaurant) zum goldenen Adler at Obertorplatz 4. The entire old town of Rheinfelden is designated as part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rheinfelden

The guided tour cost CHF 12.

It's not so bad. Cooking Lager as I refer to it. Perfectly acceptable if served ice cold.
