You can not compare member countries with 300 milion (estimate) people and rest of the world with 6 billion people...Ther eis no way that you will have more highly qualified people in those 300 million compared to the rest of the world... Especially in a segment dedicated to science and development...
Sadly a great deal of those 6 billion don't even get a high school education, never mind university. So there goes your 6 billion theory right out the window.

And that is why the EU and the EUR are going down really fast and really bad...
Gosh. It must be so difficult for you to live here knowing how fast it's all going to down. I guess you're like the captain of the Titanic.

Re: nationalism in CERN

So in 300 million people you will find better scientist compared to the rest 6 billion? I think you need to have some math lessons, or like many Europeans think of the union as the "superior" union.

Regarding watching the situation, I am very happy to be in Switzerland while the whole EU is going down. I am pretty that you and many other Europeans appreciate living in Switzerland in these hard times for the EU... I know many EU citizens would give up a lot of things to live in Norway, Switzerland etc...Outside the EU.

And your point is?

Still it is mostly EU members club
Obviously, as they are the ones paying for it!

I guess you would need to filter out all those that don't have any education at all first. Then look at the numbers of qualified people over all. But anyway, as you've seen if they really want/need people who are especially qualified from other countries, they have a way to get them to collaborate.

If the EU goes down CH is going with them. If it were not for my man I'd be living in the EU.

The EU contributes 1.5% of the funding for CERN.

Of course, some EU nations contribute more, but they do this entirely independently of their EU membership. Israel, Switzerland and Norway also contribute, as will Serbia probably.

I didn't mean the EU itself, rather than the members of CERN, most of which are in the EU!

There is no way that you will have more scientists and developers in the EU compared to the rest of the world. Yes, educational levels and number of qualified people ratio will be smaller, but confining yourself only to the EU members area is plain stupid when it comes to science RD.

And why would the CH go down with the EU...Were you around the baking crisis etc...Was there an effect to CH from this? I don't think so. And admit it, you are way better living here compared to living in the EU.

Not really, in reality:

France + Germany + UK + Italy give around 50% of the funding

CH + Norway = only 7%

So it is EU members club mostly.

Who knows what will happen but have you seen how much Euro CH is buying? Never mind the fact that Europe is CH's biggest trading block.

I used to live in the UK (1 year), Netherlands (6 months), Germany (1 year) from the better ones and they are not better compared to Switzerland

It depends very much on what you mean by "better" and what your priorities are in life.

living standard, salaries, savings, better supermarket food, polite people, working opportunities, safer roads, incredible public transport, etc etc etc... Switzerland beats them all.

Isn't it the same with ESA?
And for the WTO, ILO, NATO, UN, etc. But according to Idefix these will also go down the drain as they contain EU member states, how sad!

NATO, UN, WTO etc are not scientific RD organizations so you can rely on staffing. In science if you want to be successful you have to gather experience and knowledge from all around the world.

Just in case you missed the map, here it is again:

Despite their nationality restrictions on certain posts, CERN still manage to be more international than most university research departments.
