unbelievable invoice from Garage in Zurich

soo......
I've had a large scratch on my from bumper for few months and I knew I would get it fixed some day.
Recently, a lady parks next to me and opened her door a bit abruptly, hitting my passenger door. We check the damage, a small dent in my door. She gives me her insurance details and that's it.
I go to a garage in Zurich and decide to fix both in one go. I ask how much it would be for my bumper paint, he says around 200 and that the small one is taken care of by the insurance of the lady.
I just got the bill.....420 for my bumper. So I was about to go and complain. Now I get a second letter, not a bill but an information letter from the lady's insurance saying they just paid the garage 1450!!!
The little scratch on the door was nothing compared to the front scratch, and those 1450 are clearly insurance extortion. Even if I'm not paying those, I don't feel like letting it happen. And I'd like to fight my 420 as well...What to do from here!?

You do have the written estimate don't you.....

If he was a member of VSCI you should have been fairly billed.

He should have been billed based on cartel prices. Whether that's fair is a different question.

The TCS might help you with complaints against garage invoices,

http://www.tcs.ch/de/auto-mobilitaet.../reparatur.php

What can the TCS do for you? Below is a Google transltion!

If your complaint or defect in the garage under the form "contract to the garage owners - 2 Side" TCS members can present with all written documents contact the nearest TCS section. The section is in case of need from a voucher with the address of TCS legal advisors for a free legal consultation. Technical consultations issued the Technical Centre on site. Non-members know the web address for technical questions www.vffs.ch.

To
invoice verification requires regional TCS section or the regional center of the detailed technical job at the garage, all vehicle data according to vehicle license and the written complaint. This is the completed "repair order form of AGVS / TCS" settle.

If
you are insured by Assista TCS, also disputes with garage owners are covered. Subscribe to the difficulties with the Assista-form so that the legal expenses of the TCS can take the necessary steps.

Re: unbelievable invoice from Garage in Zurich

420CHF to fix a car bumper is not expensive at all sounds pretty standard in fact. They will have replaced the entire part since there is no such thing as prtly repairing a bumper add some labour ina nd yes that amount is easily reached. If anything you got of light.

Yes, that can be, I'm not an expert and the invoice could in line with the average. What I find dishonnest is to quote 200 and charge 420.
Also, the fact that they billed 1450 to the insurance company for a tiny scratch suggests they don't hesitate to overcharge when they can.

Can you show the original written quote to the insurance company? That would really drop the garage in the sh1t...

Re: unbelievable invoice from Garage in Zurich

I had a similar problem a few years ago, I had just bought a brand new BMW cabrio, three weeks after I picked up a neighbour reversed into it. She left her details I contacted her and sent the car to the garage. The damage was a crease in the bumper about 10cm long. Good old BMW striped the paint off the bumper, filled the crease and repainted. Seeing thar I wasn't paying for it I asked how much it cost when I picked up the car he said 1200chf I said that seems quite expensive and wouldn't it been cheaper to just replace the whole bumper, his reply was, a simple nod with closed eyes. It sounds like a common practice here.

Maybe you can claim on your insurance with park schaden ( not sure if that's spelt right)

Good luck

Re: unbelievable invoice from Garage in Zurich

Welcome to the business of insurance this is why premiums are high and yes its globally the same problem.

Very common that insurance amounts are high since there is often a standard set of inclusions in the amount and dont be surprised if the other lady had something included in the repair to get above her self contribution level and repair something. She did say what they paid the garage are you sure this was purely your door and not some other included repairs on her own car?

As far as the 200CHF estimate unless you clarified that this was the full repair you may well find the bumper was indeed that amount and then there is 220CHF labour so they may have been clear you dont have much unless they committed verbally to the amount being the full repair and not just the part.

Re: unbelievable invoice from Garage in Zurich

Yikes, this story makes me appreciate the DIY of the U.S. We got a new bumper online for about 70 bucks and installed ourselves. Paint was about 24 bucks (three cans of spray-on car paint). Pretty sure that would NEVER pass inspection here.

It's all very well being part and parcel of diddling the insurance company, and i hasten to add that the OP is indeed not doing this and trying to avoid doing this, but at the end of the day it is us who pays as we pay the insurance premiums which are increased to support these inflated costs.....

Re: unbelievable invoice from Garage in Zurich

When someone hit my S4 which didnt have a spot on it , and then drove off I knew id be hit with a huge bill.

Luckily a witness saw what happened and left me a note. took the car to an Audi recommended body shop (=expensive) and let them have a look at my very badly scratched bumper.
They also replaced the headlight washers and the headlight as they were due for replacement and gave it all to the insurance of the lady who drove off. now the headlight could have been from the scraping (it had a tiny crack in it letting moisture in) but not the washers really.

They got a bill of 4500 ish if I remember correctly just for that. so 420 is a fair deal I think

exactly, it's not that because the insurance is paying, we should accept any inflated cost. We end up paying for those invoices through the insurance premiums.
The garage bills are clearly dishonnest and I believe it adds up to the long list of overcharges we've seen in the forum...

Re: unbelievable invoice from Garage in Zurich

not sure if the bills are so high because insurance is paying. I scraped the side of my van (just above the rear wheel) leaving a parking garage last fall. In the end we go that fixed and a few other smaller paint issues and it cost near 2000 CHF to fix. I think these are just the prices paid here...

Re: unbelievable invoice from Garage in Zurich

My friend was estimated CHF 3'300 for repairing two doors on a Fiat Punto.

I took it on Monday to Lörrach in Germany, Brandlin replaced one door and repaired the other. He then repainted both doors, after 4 days I collected it and I paid € 1'500 http://www.karosserie-braendlin.de/ I recovered €250 German tax, and I am very satisfied.

In your first post, you asked how much "the paint" would be to fix your bumper. In the US that would be taken as the repair cost. Over here they would assume you just enquired about the cost of the paint. They probably used left over paint from the door anyway. It looks like you haven't even paid the 200 for the paint in that 450 price.
