"Fotze?" ?? Jeez the hair on my neck stands up at that. That doesn't sound like a BOB more like a MOC (mad old cow)
I just googled 'Fotze'.

The MOC and BOB remind me of years ago before The UK became so PC, and we used to write such things on patients' notes .

When a strange dog runs up to me, I curse too. In German, Swiss or just with gestures. The only difference is I don't care where the owner comes from.

Signed,
An Auslander BOB
To be honest, if I was walking along with an Alsation or two, and a Pug ran up to me, I think i'd just laugh. They're such cute looking dogs anyway.

OMG, OP, your story has made me LOL! It sounds like a screenplay for a movie; I can just see someone like Ben Stiller playing your part and Betty White playing the BOB!

Don't let 'em bring you down!
Exactly my feeling while reading the opening post! Oh so funny!

What I found frustrating in the beginning here was my language limitation, not being able to say things back. But am learning to handle that problem! Oh yes!
To cuss back in English - the meaning comes across just as loud and clear.
Of course sometimes it sounds like something out of an Italian comedy where neither of us knows what the other is saying, but it`s a nice feeling to "communicate" instead of keeping silent.

But I definitely would not argue with anyone holding a full doggy bag!

Same BOBs who groan and stare at me when I have two pieces of luggage on the IC train to Zurich airport. They "dead eye" stare at you with the most judging facial expression. Never understood what was wrong or odd about having luggage on the train to the airport.

Re: BOBs (Bothersome Old Bags)

While the behavior of the BOB is certainly inexcusable, and while you are to be commended for both re-leashing your larger dogs and for keeping calm...

...can I just point out that the pug shouldn't have been allowed to get too far out of 'control' range to respond to your command, and that one should never allow one's dog to approach another person or dog without first asking permission of the other person/owner/BOB.

I say this as a mild-mannered live-and-let-live type who nonetheless has been known on rare occasion to turn into something of a BOB* when a fellow dog owner breaks this cardinal rule - because I am working on behavior rehab with one of my dogs. An uninvited approach - even from cute little 'un - can undo months of behavioral work.

But accidents happen, and seeing you taking steps to get your dog under control, with an apology, should have been enough to smooth the situation over.

That said, the BOB is clearly a bit... batsh*t crazy.

And there is no excuse for kicking another dog. Two wrongs never make a right. After apologizing to her for my dog's uninvited approach I would have (still with a polite smile) quoted her article and chapter of the TSchV on use of force. (Quoting laws is always the best defense against BOB behavior. )

The good news is that BOB-type dogwalkers tend to stick to schedules. Just try to avoid that area at that time - hopefully you won't run into her again. But do keep working on the pug's recall.

Chalk this one up to experience, and here's to happier times on the hiking trails.

* Responsible owners avoid crowded paths when walking a reactive dog, so to reduce the chance of needing to turn into a BOB. So you needn't worry about running into me in BOB mode.

It's only rude if you are taking up seat space with the luggage, as many people seem to think it's ok to do. If you're standing then it's fine.

Re: BOBs (Bothersome Old Bags)

In situations like these i find laughing at the other person drives them crazy... so laugh loudly.

Although after laughing in their face i wouldnt have hung around to hear the rest of the abuse.

Well done you for hanging in there.... you probably saved her husband from an evenings abuse..

(I am laughing though at the image of a little old dear kicking a dog..)

I LOVED this video, and the comments from the owner at the end soothed my concerns. The only thing is that the song will not leave me alone. I think it's the Irish accent that makes it so irresistible. Thanks for the reminder, HSA.

BOB update: Met Friendly Gemeinde Lady in the Post Office this morning, who told me BOB has complained and asked to have me 'put under review'. WTF! I blanched and opened my mouth to explain, but FGL rolled her eyes and said 'along with the rest of the village'.

Seems MOC was about right.

And I hereby promise to refrain from further excessive uses of TLAs.

.
I had to google it too along with Dutch oven. We obviously have the same level of ignorance in these matters. It must be a result of growing up in the north of England during the 60s/70s although I was on the right side of the pennines.

The BOB sounds like a bit of a nut job to me. I have been lucky enough to have not yet encountered a BOB during my 2 years here.

I'll take that as the "red" side of the Pennines.
