Argus Car hire

I would avoid this company until they update their website to show you what you are renting before you click 'buy'.
I've just hired a car for 4 days from Heathrow, only to find out (with the confirmation email) that the rental station is based at the off Airport Holiday Inn, and the only way to get to it is by a fairly infrequent hotel bus (5 a passenger for non guests). For two people collecting and returning, thats 20 so its actually cheaper to take a taxi to collect the car

Anyway its all too much hassle for 10pm which is when we arrive so called to cancel my booking and get back the 22 advanced payment, but they're refusing to refund it. They claim that they're offering me a car within the vicinity of Heathrow and therefore its my problem

P.S Anyone familiar with the usual set-up at Heathrow will know that all the major companies are clustered near the Bath Road, with frequent free shuttle buses to/from the Terminals.

Castro

Too bad you're not happy.
You can go to Holiday Inn (if its the one I think) for free with regular bus

May not be your ideal but at lest a free solution.

Best,
Andy

Thanks, but have now cancelled and re-booked with Enterprise, which is based in the car rental 'village'.

Re: Argus Car hire

I tried to use them last minute (2 days before) on vacation in Cyprus this summer. Basically they were the only place advertising a cheap 7 seater, and we needed a 7 seater or 2 cars.

It was advertised as available but it became clear once I clicked accept that they were only brokering and looking to other rental partners to provide the car. They had no idea if one was available or not.

They kept sending emails saying they couldn't yet confirm but were still searching and would let me know.

The night before we flew I called (later at night) and they said a 7 seater would be hard to find (so why was it advertised as available with a big "Hurry not many left") and I would have a higher chance of success if I accepted a 5 seater instead, so I agreed but i said I need to know if I will have a car waiting at the airport or not.

Took the 620am flight so couldn't call in the morning but basically landed, called Argus and they had no car, said if I could wait 1/2 an hour maybe they could find one. Told them to forget it went and hired a car from Budget, paid more than Argus advertised prices but was lucky and got a car that just fit our luggage and us and it wasn't a complete rip off.

I was worried at this stage how dodgy these people might be. They fully cancelled all the prepayments they had put on my CC no problems.

Not a great experience and I will probably avoid in the future.

Re: Argus Car hire

I used them once, nice people, nice car and nice price but in Birmingham I had to take the sky train, wait for them to pick me up and take me to the offsite office, took a huge deposit off my credit card which took a week to get back to my account after the hire. And then the whole thing in reverse at the end added a good 45 mins each time.

Too much hassle for me, sticking with Avis, pick the car up at the airport and no deposit.

Re: Argus Car hire

I can thoroughly recommend Auto Europe, they actually tell you before you book who the rental partner is.
