970chf for a bottle of whiskey from 1947. I know what I'm asking my other half for my 30th!
Not a bottle, old chap: 4 cl!

You can get a nice 4cl Bowmore in the Widder Hotel bar for a cool 1k chf and I am pretty sure they had one at 1.5k chf.

Quite frankly, I think once you get up to those kind of figures, you're way past being a whisky connoiseur and bounding merrily into the realm of 'macho show off knobhead with more money than sense'.

But that could just be because I'm a pauper and a peasant.

many here sound like they're students or au-pairs trying to make a living on 500chuffs/month?! but still having the noblesse to hang out at all the chicky-micky rip-off places in kreis 1. amber is such a place. its there for how long, 3 years now? these guys still pay the mortgage for their crappy bling-bling interieurs and for sure want to buy the next Q5. so you guys have to pay for it, prices go up while i hang out at meyers enjoying my czech budweiser for 6chf wirh normal people. still pricey when a can at denner is 1.60chf but am i such a penny pincher?
then nowhere in western europe going out isnt annoying when you it comes to markups. i knew CH is expensive before i set my foot into it for the first time, i did my math, decided for and now i am living with it. calculating back&forth and comparing it with back home is pointless because it doesnt change a thing, no? friss oder stirb. but i boycot the shitty rileys and all other 'irish pubs' round here as the prices are insane! 9chf for a pint... go suck a phugg!
Reminds me of a conversation I had before arriving here on cheap local 'worker' bars. Do they exist? I know of the Strauss bar (not yet been in there), and from my limited testing a couple of years ago I quickly realized that (for me) up to 7 CHF for 50 cl (beer) is OK...

Re: the price of drinks out!!!

yep, they do exist! for everythings a niche here.

kaiser franz is nice. newly opened. they also have agustiner hell, astra and show footy/CL. calvados, berta bar, mars bar, piccolo giardino...ach...plenty around between helvetiaplatz, bäckereianlage to idaplatz and schmiede wiedikon. if you fancy "lounge athmo" (yawn! so 2000) than its not for you. but a nice bar with no nonsense... lots of choice.

I never understood how people could say that bad beer tastes like piss, until I tried the Prix Garantie one...

I rather buy some at Aldi or Lidl, or just spent some Rappen more.
Pink beer and manliness just *do not* go hand-in-hand...

...And Feldschlössen isn't any better...

The best way is buy in the supermarket... and amazingly, the non alcoholic beer is more expensive...

Why is that shocking? They have to brew the beer, and then remove the alcohol, right? Extra step=extra cost. Simple.

Yeah, only 2 hours drive from Zurich. The money I'd spend on gas, and time oggling the inside of the Gotthard,(then either sleeping in my car or some over priced, cheesily decorated hotel room near Lake Como) I'd rather spend 9 CHF a pint, and have the SBB take me home.

Re: the price of drinks out!!!

One thing I don't get is I go to school one night a week. Without fail, the entire class goes for a drink after, yet only 2 people ever get their wallet out to pay for the round: 1 is me, and the other is a Swiss guy. The rest just sit like lemons.

This has been going on a long time. How do I get the tight ones to shell out for a round?

Turn to the guy next to you and say: For the next round I'll have a champaign cocktail.

Or: You are buying the next round? Wow, thank you!

Or just order your drink and pay for it right away.

Just ask if anyone has seen the shores.

Someone is sure to ask "What shores?"

...and Bob's yer uncle...!

Sit and wait it out, as soon as they make a move, speak out, start with
"Hey tightwad, thanks for...."
