Problems with a moving company

Recently i hired a moving company in Basel to bring some furniture and put shelves on the walls. Some of the shelves were really badly put and the company promissed to repair it. However, five months later nothing happened and now i got the bill for their work and no willingnes to do the promised repairs (they claim that the person who promised it is jo longer working for them and that i signed the paper saying that the repair will be done by another company. That statement was written on german, which i do jot speak and i signed it because i thought it says what i was told it says). What should i do to either make them to do the repars or to at least reduce the bill? Is there any customer association i could contact for help?
Thanks a lot for your inputs

Re: Problems with a moving company

First of all get your contract checked to find out exactly what it does say. Unfortunately, this is a common problem if you don't speak the language so you really shouldn't sign anything without having someone translate it for you.

Is the bill for the work at the agreed price or less? If it's way over then there might be room to argue them down.

If you're renting there are associations in each canton that you could contact for advice, though I'm not sure if they deal with this sort of thing. Look for the details of the mieterverband in your area.
