One country can not extend or modify a visa issued by another country.

I don't think you don't need to waste the ticket. I think all you need is to get a Schengan visa.

The Embassy person told you to talk to the border agent as they have the last word. What did the border agent tell you? If I were you I'd call them again and ask if you got a Schengan visa could you pass through to your flight to Greece.

We've basically established that you don't need a transit visa to go non-Schengan to non-Schengan. But you do need on to go from non-Schengan to Schengan via Switzerland.
Yes, I'll ask the Embassy who has to issue me with the Visa, if I need it, to contact the border Unit, or have the Border Unit contact the Embassy, as I was told by the Embassy that they will not endorse a Visa into my passport, absurdly enough, if I dont need one. I think its good if those two parties could communicate and establish a way forward so that ordinary people as myself do not have to go through hell if the ticket's via Swiss to get to Greece.

This is perfect, thank you. This will ultimately enable me to get some answer in writing. Lets just hope they accept it at the border, because they did not want to accept the printout of the pages of the Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft. And they were quick to tell me that the people at the Embassy - 'whoever told you the wrong information' to quote the officer.
I hope that after all of this, you are able to:

1) Get a signed letter from the Embassy, from a person with the proper authority, that clearly indicates what you do or do not need to transit through the airports here. The letter should include name, address and phone number of the person giving you the "right" information.

2) Get a valid transit visa for your November trip, in case you're still waiting around for the letter mentioned in (1).

Gosh what a nightmare.

Yes, the challenge is to get it in writing from a person with the proper authority, and getting the border patrol to accept. Yes it is a nightmare when one's fate rests in the hands of ordinary mortals who has their own interpretations of a law for example. I avoided this last year, when I was meant to travel via Vienna to Bratislava for Christmas, when the person at the Austrian Embassy told me that I do not need a visa, but the person at the border, they cannot vouch for and that the person at the border often has his or her own interpretation of the law. Needless to say, I ended up avoiding Austria, even though tickets to Austria was less pricey, but I had a safe Christmas without rows with border patrol officers.
