Ban Speeding Cameras

i know they're here for our "safety" but some US states are already banning them because they are an infringement on peoples constitutional rights. who thinks we should have a similar referendum and bring back the old days? I hate having my picture taken without my permission.

i hate when technology is used to control people.

Re: Ban Speeding Cameras

I take it that it is your constitutional right to speed?

Re: Ban Speeding Cameras

I can't vote but speed appropriately. That is on the highway where cameras are not typically there.

In town, I think of the kittens.

I am all for anything that helps reduce car accidents and motoring related fatalities. However I am totally against the use of speed cameras as racketeering and stealth tax tool!

Re: Ban Speeding Cameras

The speed cameras here have nothing to do with public safety. They are purposely made as unobtrusive as possible in a clear attempt to catch people unaware.

The aren't "speed reducers" as much as they are "revenue enhancers"

I would like to see them gone.

i agree with you but lets flip that around.... people dont know where they are so they could be caught at any time so that may deter people speeding....

in theory anyway, in practice it doesnt work too well - on highways anyway.

i sit at an indicated 130 but people fly by me all the time.

Re: Ban Speeding Cameras

Speed cameras are okay useful and effective...what should be banned is the practice of budgeting for their revenue, which seems to determine their placement instead of the reduction of accidents.

Re: Ban Speeding Cameras

Geeze, there's a constitutional right to be able to speed down a road and kill someone? Heck, if you're going to do that you might as well as it's against my constitutional right that you restrict me to a speed limit in the first place!

Everyone moans about speed cameras, but if drivers actually drove at the speeds they are supposed to there wouldn't be any need for the things. Sounds like simple common sense to me, but obviously not to the majority of drivers.

Re: Ban Speeding Cameras

switzerland in the 70s/80s:

Jean-luc: how long does it take to get there?
Jean-claude: well what kind of car do you have?

speeding a little bit should be ok if NO ONE IS ON THE ROAD.

It is my constitutional right to bear arms ....... and I'm going to shoot every pflucker that speeds past me in a two-tonne chunk of metal, in a dangerous fashion.

Re: Ban Speeding Cameras

Plus the tolerance, so more like 10.

If you're getting note in the mail all that often, it's not a hidden tax anymore, is it?

If you are only 5km/h over the solution to avoid getting a ticket is to not go over by 5 km/h. Why do you need to go over at all?

Re: Ban Speeding Cameras

It's nothing like a tax, it's a punishment. Tax can't be avoided. Speeding can - you have a choice to speed or not. Don't speed, don't pay. It's not hidden either. Everyone knows that if you get busted for speeding you're going to have to pay a fine. Nothing hidden about it.

If you get fined for littering is that tax too? No it's a punishment.

ok maybe they're not that often, but if i have 4 people driving in the family, even if its every now and then its really annoying. its like in the future cars might as well be on a regulated track or conveyor belt.

A good alternative would be to learn how to drive a car. If you are not aware of a speed limit and the speed of your car, there is something wrong.

Not one in 12 yrs. here ..... but I drive/ride smart, and not always (often) within limits.

If you can't pay the fine- don't do the crime.
