Re: Smoking issue from neighbours

As things stand there won't be a ban on advertising and other promotions for smoking, nor will current restrictions be broadened. A few days ago the federal parliament decided against a ban proposed by the Bundesrat.

It's important to note that there were federal votes (Volksinitiative) on such a ban - IIRC there were two votes, both times the result was against a ban.

So the schizophrnic situation is likely to persist:
Any kind of advertising is allowed but selling to minors is banned and taxes keep being raised in order to make it less attractive.

I groaned him because his answer, albeit true, was, in my opinion, unnecessarily terse.

We lived somewhere here and due to the design of our apartment, every time we aired the apartment, our childrens' bedrooms would fill with the chain-smoking neighbour's smoke.
So, I have some empathy with the poster.

Not sure impotent is the right word - you're much more likely to be impotent with defective sperm if you are a smoker.

Is there a law for xxxx? No.

Seems a clear enough answer to me. Would you be happier with "No, but thre should be, right? OMG I can't believe there isn't one! Shall we start a petition? Yes, let's! I'll sort out a venue, you bring the cakes, let's see if we can get a referendum started".

It has two meanings. Look at you, straight to the penis. That's my job.

Not very well hidden, is it. Nothing catches the eye more than a groan.

Stalemans2 groans for everything. Can't others do it too or is it only for people with an ego the size of Ticino?

Ok, I'll make it less terse:

No, as we don't live in a shithole, liberty robbing country such as the US.

There, happy now?

Tom

No, we obviously live in a country where you can speak and/or write to your neighbour about their chain smoking but that gets you absolutely nowhere - because there isn't a law against it.

What the hell does that say about the Swiss?

That they are rational.
The smokers at least:

Selfish. Unable to think about the wellbeing of others. Putting themselves first.

Unable to act with a conscience unless a law dictates that they should at least pretend they have one?*

* There's another Swiss law regarding which springs to mind here.

I'd have thought any parent of small children would understand the OP's dilemma. It's not about the Law, it is about your freedom having limits when it is causing real disturbance to others. I sleep with windows opened all year round, and the thought of smoke getting into my bedroom at night is just not something I could live with- and not being able to air the kids room would be totally unacceptable - law or no law.

As a neighbour, if someone came to talk to me and explain how this is affecting them- I'd seriously consider what I could do to help, and maybe smoke elsewhere than under kids' bedrooms. It is part of being a decent, considerate human being- and nothing about being 'anti-smoker' per se. What if the kids sufferend from asthma?

I groaned the last post on principle- lol, even though I agree

Re: Smoking issue from neighbours

smoking is addictive, you know, of course. Of course you know.

Thats what you are up against. An addiction. Habits. They probably read, game or watch tv in that room. Or all at the same time?

Tall mountain mate. Go for the owner. If they own then off to obi for some plastic and glue. But first the owner of the units.

If the owner smokes you may be screwed.

Good luck.
