I'll flip this case on it's head...

If the dealer gave you the courtesey car with let's say CHF10.- of fuel in it and you had to fill up as soon as and then returned it with CHF10.- worth of fuel still inside. Would you go to the dealer and ask him to cover your fuel cost?

Let's say you ragged the car and drove 2000km which would be around CHF300.- worth of fuel, would you again expect the dealer to cover your fueld cost?

It's absurd! Why should the dealer cover your fuel costs while your car is being repaired? Granted it's not your fault it has a manufacturing defect but alongside that they're not charging you a penny for labour, parts or courtesey car.

Most dealers have one intention whilst providing excellent customer care - You will return and buy another new car in the future.

Re: Car mechanic lost his mind?

I like the concept of one rental company I used, once:

- pick the car up empty (almost), get to the nearest petrol station and have to fuel up, then return the car empty.
This is obviously difficult to gauge accurately - either run out before you get back, or end up giving fuel away - which is what they expect.

No hidden fuel bills to come back later.

Re: Car mechanic lost his mind?

You fetch the car full tank, you return it full tank. That's how it works.
Anything else like shoddy service and high bills is called being Switzerlanded.

My common sense never fails me. I was always under impression that the garage which later turned out to be my car service station, would cause a serious indent in my pocket. And rightly so. I use it as a storage facility for my summer/winter tyres plus fitting service which costs me about CHF200 a season. They always add overheads in form of oil top up and antifreeze. That wouldn't make me excited except for the fact that some careless geek did not realize that after charging me for oil last week, my car was due for an oil change next week.
So I made a note of it and complained.

This afternoon a lady from a car dealer phoned me to conduct customer satisfaction survey after my last appointment. So, I really had a chance to recall few incidents from the past that irked me. She was polite to make a note of them and improve customer care and service in the future but we both know it won't happen

I told them that I feel somewhat discriminated by the fact that I bought their second hand car and never receive calls or offers to test drive their latest fleet for free over the weekend whereas those who buy thrir 5-digit valued cars are automatically being ass-kissed by promotions and preferential service over losers like me. I also pointed out that sometimes when they misjudge duration of repair time the customer gets sacked by either not having an alternative vehicle or must pay for using replacement. They asked me for opinion after all.

Whilst I could do all this stuff by myself but somehow allow this nuisance to get Switzerlanded.

That's a risky business of renting a car almost empty because you might get stranded before you reach the pumping station. Especially if you are new in town

It was at an airport and there's always one within spitting distance of the rentals park, and they tell you where to go.

First of all, what is wrong with Lada? 'Tis a fine automobile.

Second, i love how most EFers talk big but then sit in a restaurant trying to figure out who had the diet pepsi.

For a start all the electrics, navigation, speakers and reverse gear are wired up to each other. If you want a car that is cheap on the pocket to buy and run then yes the lada is not a bad buy if you want something reliable then well it makes a Skoda that others seem to think is not much look like a luxury top end performance car.

Cant see what the complaint about being asked to pay for used fuel is since as many posts have stated is normal for rental cars and a courtesy car that ypu had for 10 days seeems perfectly reasonable.

So here is the deal. I took my car to be fixed under warranty to a large dealer. Told him to change the amplifier and the two front speakers. He gives me a courtesy car and I drive off. He calls me and says no need to change hardware, just update the software. I return courtesy car without filling up the tank and pick up my own car.

Of course the problem was not fixed. So I go back and this time he does what I told him. Seems to be ok but I get a bill in the post for chf 100 for the gas I used in the courtesy car I used the second time

So what would you do with this bill? I am tempted to tell them to put this bill where the sun don't shine. Basically, noone told me i had to pay for gas, and more importantly, by not fixing the car the first time, i was forced to go back there again and waste my time and gas in my car. Btw, this was not a rental car he gave me but one of the dealership's demo cars.
I don't know if this has been said yet, but...pay it. It doesn't matter the kind of car it is, rental, dealer, etc. You drove places in it, and had you drove to those places in your own car, you would have paid gas for that car, why is a courtesy car any different?

Why should you get free gas?

The planet where dealers don't waste my time and tell me about filling up the courtesy car .

Rental places and jnsurance companies tell me 10 times to return the car with a full tank
What I don't understand is why you needed anyone to tell you that.

I give up. You people just don't get it. Good customer service means that when a customer is inconvenienced, you just address the issue and not penny pinch. I would be ASHAMED to bill a customer for gas in this scenario.

Regular service, yes I would pay. With this clusterf@@k, no way.

Re: Car mechanic lost his mind?

Finally it has only taken 91 posts until you have actually really explained the real issue. If you had pointed out from the start that it was a proper stuff up and that you could understand being charged during a normal service you may have received some sympathy.
