Re: Weather!

Greiysh here today, and yet our local French town was bright and sunny.

A bit overcast tonight- so no sight of la Grande Lune - but we probably will get the best views tomorrow night (but not here .

Nice article for children in Migros magazine explaining the 'mer de brouillard' - the sea of fog, which so often plagues lower plains at this time of year- trapping cold air- whereas above the sun shines brightly and temps can be significantly higher. Interesting. The photos taken recently from tops of the Jura across the fog and to fabulous views of the Alps- have been absolutely stunning.

Re: Weather!

Personally, I love the diversity of the weather here. Only in certain circumstances can you not travel to a part of the country that is without clear skies (the reason i love buying Tageskarten for guests tbh).
I was disappointed by the summer storms this year, they all missed us (damn you Basel/Thurgau ).

One thing i miss though......wind!! odd but true. Anybody else?

Re: Weather!

It's certainly starting to feel like winter now even without the snow. The temperatures have dropped dramatically and 'la bise' was horrendous on Monday and Tuesday making it feel much colder than it actually was but the beautiful clear blue skies and frosty mornings are lovely.

We have had the snow poles up around here for a couple of weeks now.

Quote:
Still snowing - about 25cm so far...

snow poles all in place, and of course, snow tyres on ... I mean how can anyone be taken by surprise - snow normally begins much earlier than this year.

Really? I don't think we get snow very often in October and not usually very much in November. The higher places in the alps etc. may get snow much earlier than this but not at the lower altitudes (below 1200m).
Quote:
We didn't last year- but all the other years before that since our move.
They mentioned again on the news this morning about the early snow catching people out and that drivers should be better prepared for it by now so I decided to see if I could find out more since most people I know ( including us) don't put our winter tyres on until early/mid November.

These statistics suggest that it was indeed unusual to have snow quite so early and that it is normally late November/early December before we have the first snowfall.

I found these sites too which also give interesting statistics.

The ski station data from this area would also indicate the same thing.

Re: Weather!

Living in the lake area I am now considering buying all-season tyres and save 200chf per car yearly... They suppose to work well down to -5C and on snow so....The temperature here is not going below -5C at all.

Re: Weather!

After a couple of nice days of sunshine after a week of dull and misty, we're back to cold and misty again.

At the top if the lake near Marin.
Hubby is at Serrieres so I guess he's got the sun too.

You must be in that sunny bit down there. It's just getting to us now.

From the 'cube'?

The car park doesn't look much better than before, there are still cars parked outside the spaces.( or maybe that one isn't actually parked)

I thought they were supposed to have started charging already?
It will probably cut down the number of cars parking there and being left all day while people catch the team I to Neuchâtel for work once they start charging.
Visitor parking there is a joke. They need more visitor parking spaces.

Re: Weather!

They fiddle with the barriers and the paying machines. Yes I agree, the visitors parking is virtually non existent. As for cutting the cars amount...well it will be cheap - only 1CHF an hour so...

Edit: aaaaand the sun is gone!
