Re: Weather!

Oh no, gorgeous up here again. You really must drive up at the week-end to anywhere on the Jura and watch the massive 'mer de brouillard' (sea of fog) that covers the whole plain right up to the Alps.

Re: Weather!

No idea if you got some sun today 'down there by t'lakes'. It is absolutely gorgeous up in the Jura mountains (for novices, the Jura is a term that covers a multitude of things, a French Departement, a Swiss Canton, but also the range of mountains from Geneva to Basel on the North-West border, including parts in Ge, Vaud, Neuchâtel (moi), Bern and Basel. The views at this time of year are amazing - the sea of fog below, and the Alps, clear as a bell as no haze in winter- beyond. Magical.

Skating this week-end on the fab Lac des Taillères, near La Brévine, above Neuchâtel- with skate hire, vin chauds, hot chestnuts and sausages, etc.

You can also walk on the ice (good tread on shoes and keep those knees soft) and pull sledges, etc. Booootiful. Sadly, my skating days are over. Last time I skated there was about 10 years ago, with my 94 year old dad (he passed away at 96).

Re: Weather!

Well, it's trying here. Can see the sun, but it hasn't managed to disperse the mist completely at the moment. Went to Bern and brilliant sunshine there, then off to Shoppyland in search of the Christmas turkey (successful) and back to mist/fog again on the way home via Ins for fuel and McD's at Murten.

Re: Weather!

It's nice here today Medea so maybe it will make it over to you very soon.

I was starting to get a bit fed up of the greyness. Five days in a row is rather unusual here and all my Swiss friends were commenting on it at the pool yesterday afternoon.

Re: Weather!

Check La Brévine Facebook page or website - it was lovely and sunny and warm today, but so cold at night with totally clear skies.

Nope, never managed it. Could see the white sun through the mist, but it never was strong enough to drive the mist away.

We do occasionally get pockets of mist for several days here. It's quite a surprise to drive out of the village towards Fribourg and go into brilliant sunshine within a couple of kilometres. But it isn't just us, we went out to the the weekly food shop last night and mist/fog all the way over to Murten and back. That plus the dark and it wasn't very pleasant driving as couldn't see much of anything apart from a few feet in front of the car. Didn't help either that Aldi's parking lot lights weren't working for some reason so that was dark too.

Re: Weather!

Bit far to go just for a turkey. OH was muttering about my backup plan to go up to the Migros at Brügg port if we didn't find one the right size at Shoppyland. I wanted a 2.8k which we did see last weekend, but didn't buy at the time. The small Migros in Avenches on Friday night only had 3.8k which is a bit big for just 2 people. But Shoppyland's M had 2/3 2.8k ones so that was great!

Weather still the same here today. Misty with the sun trying, but no getting through so far. Might be better later on.

Re: Weather!

Started sunny and vera bright up here, and suddenly gone grey - but still bright.

Turkey would have been just an excuse - sure you could have found other bits and bobs, and got a great walk around Lac St Point or at Les Rasses on way back. On a good day, the view from Les Rasses is just amazing. Lunch at the Grand, followed by a swim in their pool ...
as said, too late - no sunshine today for the first time in weeks (says neighbour- we've only been back since Tuesday night).

Re: Weather!

We're definitely fog dwellers here in Biel and surrounding area for now about 3 weeks in a row, for the umpteenth time I drove Daughter#2 to work this morning. Fog as thick that occasionally you hardly see a lot beyond the car's bonnet.......as soon as we're past my native village of Münchenchbuchsee....suuuuuuunnn galore.

Re: Weather!

Oh no, I have to say it would drive me nuts and make me feel down.

Brightening up again up here, sun is out but some cloud, but defo not as sunny and bright as last few days (weeks)...

I'll always remember as a very young child walking up to Chasseron with my parents for a picnic, when I first saw the Mer de Brouillard and all the Alps in the background- oh the joy. Ever since I've always wanted to run down the hill and jump in those clouds and bounce and bounce all the way to Mont Blanc.

Growing up here, we often felt the disdain of the people in 'Le Bas' people by the lake ... and we used to laugh the whole winter through saying 'oh the poor buggers living down there in the fog ... they can keep it... and feel as smug as they like'.

Re: Weather!

I don't mind, actually I quite like fog and foggy conditions and I can always get a little sun when I walk Lizzie where Daughter#2 works

Re: Weather!

We do have some sunshine. Mist has mostly gone and sun is shining through the clouds. Yay, we have clouds! And frost is melting off too.

Re: Weather!

Although I am rejoicing here at our chalet in Chatel because of the springlike conditions, it is about to get very, very sad. It is too warm to make snow and the condition on the slopes is deplorable. There is no precipitation forecast in the near future and I fear many people will be hiking instead of skiing for their Christmas break.

We were in Grimentz this weekend and they had one slope with fake snow open. Ditto with Crans-Montana. The Portes du Soleil has nothing open for skiing. We need snow already!

Re: Weather!

It never did clear up properly, much to the chagrin of our friends from Neuch who have been in fog al week and were desperate to come up to the sun

A disaster for the ski resorts all over Europe. Here in Switzerland, the Hôtel and ski inudstry is having a hard time due to the high CHF and low £ anyhow. Some people and resorts will go belly up this winter at this rate.
