Well it started well up here, sunshine and blue skies- and then we had to go to Geneva...
hell started just above Yverdon as we slowly drove into heavy fog - a bit clearer from Lausanne to Geneva, but all below cloud with the odd tiny bit of blue and for about 2 mins could guess the sun was somewhere up there.
As we drove back late afternoon, fog was getting thicker- had a swim at the spa in Yverdon surrounded by thick fog- and then as we drove up, it suddenly all cleared- back to big clear starry skies. Pheeew.
Sorry for boasting, but I'd go nuts down there in t'fog, truly. | This user would like to thank for this useful post: | |

Don't stay miserable this week-end- drive up to Les Rasses- lunch at the Grand and perhaps a swim in their pool- and a nice walk with THAT fabulous view.
(blimey Ferney-Voltaire is a depressing dump ... )

Not sure you get a good view of Mer de Brouillard and all the Alps from there, do you? (never been..)
BTW the nearest French ski resort to Lausanne, Métabief-Mt d'Or is opening the quad chair lift all week-end for people to go up to top of Mont Rond for THAT view...

.. | | | | | Do you get a good view from Fernay Voltaire which is what he was referring to?
It's been a while since I've been there but I don't remember there being a good view from Ferney Voltaire either.

LOL the answer to that is NO. I'd never heard of Val Thoiry, and thought it sounded like a French ski resort ahahah. Looked it up, and computer says NO!
Anyhow- just in case you are sick of the fog- no idea what it is like down there today- it's a gorgeous, bright sunny day up in the Jura mountains- so take the train, the funicular, drive, or cycle - but up you go, and enjoy.
From the Nyon area drive up to Mollendruz, from Yverdon or Lausanne to Les Rasses- or take the lovely train to St Croix and then a bus or walk to Les Rasses. Same from Neuch- or up to Creux du Van, Les Rasses, Mauborget, or Funicular up to Chaumont. Go skating at La Brévine, Lac des Taillères (skating hire, food, vin chaud, etc- you can walk of sledge of course if skating is not your thing). From either side you can go to Métabief/Mt d'Or, the local French ski resort between Vallorbe and Pontarlier- as they are opening the chair-lift up for walkers this week-end. From Solothurn, Bienne- up to Chasseral. From Fribourg up the Jaun, or to Moléson. Etc, etc- possibilities are endless- as long as you go UP and above.

| | | | | I have no idea where Val Thoiry is either but as the only times I'd seen it mentioned on here were in the context of cross border shopping I made the link to Ferney Voltaire rather than the mer de brouillard. | Quote: | | | |

| | | | | It's grey here as it has been since Wednesday. It's not particularly foggy and we have certainly not had thick fog here at all this week but it has been grey. Monday was gorgeous and Tuesday was sunny and cloudy so we haven't had wall to wall greyness and it doesn't really bother me that much.
We have had more greyness this year than in all the previous six added together though.

Well at least we're not the only ones with foggy problems. Several flights have had to be cancelled or diverted in southern England due to fog. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-38352178 |

I don't get why you all hate fog so much. I love it!! :P
It hides the awful brown on brown colour sheme outside ... whether in the forest or over the plains, muddy brown bleurgh where ever you look.....
I think it is almost magical, this white mist where you can only see shilouettes, the air is humid thanks to it, which is better for your health anyway.
Thanks to the low hanging fog, overnight ice crystals are building up on trees and other plants and make them all enchanted looking.
Of course I wll also love it once the sun shows his face again, but for the time being I love the mist and fog

hoar frost is indeed fabulous- but it twinkles like crazy when the sun rises on it ... one of the most beautiful winter sights.

Today we had a touch of blue sky and sun above the frosty trees, and the fog curling around. we have had a combination of magical and gloomy days.
I have a very effective SADS lamp for the gloomy ones.

Absolutely delighted to hear some of you enjoy the fog.
However, if you'd rather have some lovely sunshine- I can confirm it is a gorgeous, blue skies, sunny day and much warmer up here on the tops of the Jura- if you want to plan a trip to t'mountains. Enjoy.
