Re: Weather!

Had ours at lunchtime and had to dash upstairs to shut the bathroom window (Velux type) before the rain came in! Had a nice big crack of thunder a little later as well. Then the sun came out for a bit, but now it's looking iffy again.

Re: Weather!

Loads of rain due in the night/early morning, peaking at about 3mm per 10 mins. - probably accompanied by few clatter-bangs.

We had that too just when I was contemplating getting the (electric) mower out in an attempt to cut the grass before the rain arrived.

Having looked at the animation for the next 24 hours it would appear that the midday downpour is all we're going to get here.

Hot and sticky. Looking forward to the Badi this evening to improve my swimming technique, which is appalling I might add.

Re: Weather!

jacek's guide to DIY - lousy weather part XI:

1. Find ample dry sponge and soak it wet in the rain. Don't use any soap!
2. Spend 10 minutes wiping energetically droplets from body of your car while removing grease (vehicle aready stood on parking lot for more than 1 hour).
3. Leave the car outside for indefinite period of time in heavy rain.
4. Open bottle of wine celebrating free car wash.
5. Document the final product of your work.

Re: Weather!

Actually as summers go in and around the Zürich region this hasn't been that bad. We did have a good end of May and June.

Since I've been here there have been a couple of years when summer simply didn't appear.

If I have to spend one more day stuck inside with my kids, I might go bonkers.

That being said, we went to one of those indoor play places today, like half of the planet, and the two gazillions kids jumping around mine just about killed me.

I'm betting that you'll go bonkers. IANAM (I am not a Meteorologist), but looking at the satellite images there's a weather system that's stuck rotating over Switzerland at the moment that appears to be held in place by another system to the north.

The forecast for the next week is pretty lousy, with just the odd glimmer of hope on Friday and Monday, but I reckon it'll be well into August before we see a real change, if we see a real change.

Get yourself the "Cantuun" board game:http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/117731/cantuun

Learn, have fun and prepare your Swiss integration at the same time! Beats the bad weather. Nice cup of hot chocolate a bonus!

I don't think Melusine needs much help to prepare her Swiss integration somehow.

The board game looks very nice for the non Swiss amongst us though.

Oh, I don't know, even for the Swiss, it has "double speed" guessing activities, so the slower citizens get their chance, and a myriad of exciting facts such as "in which canton was a chicken accused of sorcery in 1600s for laying a too colourful egg and therefore burnt at the stake?"...

I guess that at 3 my daughter would probably be bored in a matter of seconds!
same with museums and the like, which are great for my older boy but not for her and as I have a newborn as well going to jump in puddles under the rain is out too.
