Re: Weather!

Yea, just the perfect timing to change your heating system and know that you will have no heating nor warm water for at least a day........

And of course open doors all the time, oil tanks out, old boiler out, new boiler in ............

Oh well, nice cup of tea, a blanket and "warme Gedanken"

Re: Weather!

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. This late snow is all my fault. Hubris is always punished, especially in gardening.

Popping into the Landi for something sensible last week, Geraniums of the most beautiful unusual shade, just the thing to set off my balcony and neighborhood tongues a-wagging, caught my eye. The sun was shining, spring was in the air, green(ish) thumb started a-twitchin'.

But I knew it was too early, I knew I shouldn't. Yet resistance was futile...

Geraniums are now in the cold frame, candles keeping them warm, thumbs firmly pressed.

The pear, raspberries and blueberries were all in bloom. Thumbs pressed even more firmly.

19 springs here and I still haven't learned my lesson:

Vor Nachtfrost du nie sicher bist,
bis Sophie vorüber ist.

Note to self, again: Do not plant before the Eisheiligen. Repeat: Do not plant before the Eisheiligen. Seriously, do not plant before the Eisheiligen!

LOL, I'll share the blame with you. The newbies from last week might not make it but the roses will as they already spent three winters outside.
Yep, this Eisheiligen-thing still seems in place although last year planting in April worked just fine. And seriously, the Eisheiligen are in May! Sod that.

Crazy weather- sunny and snowing at the same time ... and perishing cold.
My jacuzzi (cheapo blow up one, but it is great) is at the right temperature, 40C- but it is just too cold to go out and use it- drat.
Same for us. Sunny and just saw a few flakes coming down.

I sympathise. Our's is just about to give out on us so trying to organise a new one. Meanwhile the old one runs for a bit then stops and refuses to start for me. Only the OH has the magic touch at the moment to get it going again. So on first thing in the morning, started again when he gets home and lastly kicked off again before he comes to bed. Oh, the joys of being a home owner.

Re: Weather!

Packed the kids in the car this afternoon to spend the afternoon at the zoo.

We were welcomed by a snow storm and such strong winds my toddler almost took off

We ended up in the tropiquarium getting warm with the snakes and turtles

Re: Weather!

Very bright and sunny- but bitterly cold with the East wind at full power. Wood burner is on- and I am staying warm.

Re: Weather!

Same here for the sunshine, but no wind thank goodness. Had to pop down to Fribourg this morning on the bus and it was a bit nippy walking to and from the bus stop to the house, made me wish I'd put my winter coat on. I have 4.7C outside at the moment and there was frost on the ground and a little dusting of snow I think on the rooftops this morning, though it's all melted off now.

Luckily the sunshine will warm up the living and dining rooms and I'll be fine in my computer room with warmer clothes and nice cups of coffee and tea.

Same here. It's lovely and warm indoors with the sun streaming in through the windows but the wind is howling away outside.
Not planning on going anywhere as I can't do any of my coats up at the moment.

Fortunately there has been no frost here yet but there may be tonight as temps are due to drop even lower.

Re: Weather!

Weather has definitely 'turned' - still bright albeit grey, but windy and getting colder- no snow - yet. Must go to La Chaux-de-Fonds, might have some there

Re: Weather!

Didn't believe it would actually happen- but woke up to heavy snow and tops of mountains all white- didn't last long, didn't stick- raining on and off.

Good job I put cloches on delicate plants yesterday. I lost my new lemon verbena bush to frost last week- but I pruned it hard, tore off damaged leaves and it is sprouting back.

About 20-25cm in the Black Forest ...

and it keeps coming down ....

16.30h snow changed to rain but snow on grass, trees and roofs resisted! And more to come tomorrow they say. I think I'm gonna go hibernating .... somebody offered to water my plants while I do.
