Very strong winds at the moment, there are a couple of flags on a bridge a couple of hundred metres away. The wind is cracking them like a whip, the noise is so loud it sounds like someone is moving furniture on my balcony
Wind gone and so has one flag; the other flag does not look too well

Re: Weather!

Half a meter of snow in the village of Chatel at 1200 meters. Up at the top of the resort, I can't even imagine. All of the lifts are closed though because the avalanche risk is at 5.

Re: Weather!

Brrr - I really don't want to go outside again, especially since it is dark and cold and raining. But I promised my friend that I'd go check on her cat, so the new bicycle jacket will get its first christening

*shudder*

I'm cold just thinking about going out there

Re: Weather!

Yes, woke up to snow here too. Had to go out (hubby's annual hospital check-up), but at least everyone was driving sensibly. Still falling a little bit here.

Tons and tons of snow- shovel, shovel, snow-blow and again ...

Great ski conditions in the Jura resorts and for xcountry skiing too. Looks like we will really have a white Christmas this year

Probably only above ~1000m as it currently looks. Although global warming has messed about with the Jetstream so much that forecasting beyond 4 or 5 days has become very unreliable of late.

Re: Weather!

I am curley - kids and grand-kids were planing to all come visit- but Xmas being on a Monday, the sils only have 4 days off - so ..... Got a big extended family group coming to eat here on Monday but I am doing absolutely none of the work- just providing the space.

Winter wonderland - driving through Val-de-Ruz above Neuchâtel was wonderful, with brilliant views of Chasseral and the Alps- and over the thick sea of fog over Neuchâtel and the plain- could see the top of the Fribourg mountains just poking out of the 'mer de brouillard'.

We are at 950m Baboon - so should be ok.

Eh?
There has been no fog here at all today, in fact we have had none at all so far this year. It has been lovely and sunny with a clear blue sky and a fabulous view across the lake to the alps.

The snow has all melted now, though.

Re: Weather!

Bizarre indeed- as from Val-de-Ruz the whole plain below was covered with fog, apart from the top of the Fribourgeoises. I suppose if the layer is high and not too thick, you might not be so aware of it as there is no actual fog below.

Here is a video from our local French resort this morning, Métabief-Mt D'Or, which has opened today- the fog layer over the plains is quite clear from above:

https://www.facebook.com/Metabief.To...9141602827025/

lots of photos of 'mer de brouillard' by the fabulous Vincent Bourrut:

https://www.facebook.com/vincent.bou...548358/?type=3

It was a bit misty up here in the morning, but sun is up now and everything is twinkling, including the hoar frost. So hope the rain forecast for tomorrow won't happen- as ski , sledging, conditions are great for the Christmas week-end and it is all so beautiful.

The snow has all melted now, though.
Despite my love of snow, and of a white Christmas particularly, I am praying for ours to melt, at least 10cm.

Why?

With the 30-some (packed and icy) centimeters we have now, the fence around my birdhouse is no longer Heffalump proof. The Bear Of Very Little Brain (and birdseed thief) can now step over the fence on the snow side - and then finds himself stuck inside our bird feeding 'fortress'. As there is no snow under the feeder the fence is too tall inside so he cannot climb out.

I'm getting too old, creaky, and wobbly to lift a large intellectually-and-spatially-challenged collie over fences.

Bah humbug.
