Re: Weather!

The wind has really picked up here, something on a neighbour's balcony just blew over and smashed, so I brought a couple of plants and my little terracotta cat inside.

Re: Weather!

Storm front has just come through, here.
Very intense rain with gale force swirling gusts, meant that even several metres under cover (with open front only), everything (and me) was getting wet.
Patio was big puddle, for a while.

Seems to have died down a bit, after about 30 mins.

Good luck to all you easterners

Re: Weather!

Our greenhouse on the terrace is a mess - all the polycarbonate panels sent flying, and then the green house frame moved about 7 or 8 meters. Plants turned over, etc.

I'm in the US, but my husband called me.

If the frame isn't too badly bent and the door intact, we may be replacing the panels. Otherwise, I'll be looking for a replacement.

Re: Weather!

Well we came out of that remarkably unscathed. The patio furniture set moved about a metre across the patio but remained tightly wrapped up and secure and other than that a large puddle from the copious amounts of rain is all we have to show for it. It does seem to have cleared large numbers if leaves off the trees around here though and it was pretty windy between about 8pm and midnight, even the cat refused to go out in it.

It's lovely here now but pretty nippy at only 8 degrees. The forecaster on the radio was being her usually witty self this morning when announcing the temps for today. She gave the high and low and I was thinking wow that's ok and then at the end added rather quietly 'divided by 2'.

Re: Weather!

A bit windy last night- and a flurry of snow on the ground as we woke up.
Been nice and sunny this am but now very fine sleet/rain.
A bit of a shock going to +22C to about 0 now, lol.

There have might been some snow fall up on the Chasseral last night but it's still lovely and sunny and not at all cold down here.

Re: Weather!

This Indian Summer is just amazing and keeps going. What I love at this time is the brilliance of the light and sky- no haze- from our top of the Jura walk yesterday, we could see the Alps so clearly, could have picked them up ne by one. Sadly supposed to begin to change on Sunday- but who cares for now, I'm loving it

Re: Weather!

Another lovely weekend that side. Well, I couldn't enjoy it so much because I was busy playing tournament in Schlieren. Good thing is that I won it though after battling for hours. Almost 8 hours of tennis in total over two consecutive days. I need a break now. Also good getaway from EF to discover that there is some alternative life out there

Level 3 warning for rain and wind up in the Alps and southern parts of the country. Batten down, folks.

Re: Weather!

Well that Indian Summer was great (hey Sobeit- can't be responsible for your **** TV watching )- but it is all over now I think.

I really hope horrible November won't be too awful- it is my hated month of the year- and that we will have a fantastic PROPER winter, crisp and cold with lots of fluffy snow...

If I wasn't stuck here looking after a houseful of geriatric animals- I'd be off for 6 weeks November to mid December- every year.

Re: Weather!

I just hate it when winter comes in early November because it makes the winter seem so long. First snowfall just before Christmas and the last at the beginning of Feb will suit me fine.

North of the Alps, very strong winds expected until this evening. In the south, heavy rain, maybe snow on the passes,

Delicious fohn in Glarnerland last night: put the bins out in my shirtsleeves, and it was warm like a summer's night in the med.

I feel sorry for whoever lost part of their roof last night - as long as it wasn't us!

Re: Weather!

Amazing view over Baden from the hills coming down from Freienwil. The whole city was covered by thick fog. I was about to stop and take the photo to post it later but it's not very safe to do that from the roadside. It's like two different worlds one outside and the other inside the bubble.

Re: Weather!

OH takes pictures all the time at this time of year from the tops of the Jura- with the 'mer de brouillard' (sea of fog) down and across the whole plain and lake and the Alps in the background- and we think, pheeew, we could not stand living below that (it's called la Peutsch here)... I know, I know BM- apparently your bit between the lakes is immune)...

If ever at the week-end you find yourself below thick fog- remember that it is very likely to be brilliant sunshine above it- so take your bike, car, train or whatever and aim up and come and join the joys. From Yverdon, there is such a cute train that will take you along the mountain a lovely route to St Croix, where you can then walk or take a bus up to Les Rasses and walk to Les Cluds where you can have a great fondue in the farm café- or cross country ski (rental at Les Rasses) or snowshoe (rental too)... or go to the Grand for a posher lunch in the old Victorian dining room- and have a swim in the indoor swimming-pool too.
