Re: Weather!

Just had a few lovely days in Loèche-les-Bains and Lavey-les-Bains with a friend she got quite sunburnt on Thursday. So grey, cold and damp today here- but the light today was amazing.

Trying to resist putting radiators on ...

Re: Weather!

Gorgeous, warm, bright - early autumn day. Had to drive to La Chaux-de-Fonds, and never seen so many buzzards and red kites in one day- soaring in the warm currents- they were everywhere on the Jura.

Re: Weather!

The entire summer should have been like today: a fresh breeze, beautiful white fluffy clouds that occasionally hid the sun, and a temperature of about 25. It could have been a couple of degrees cooler, but I'll take the whole package any day

Re: Weather!

Thought the swallows had gone, as it had all gone quite around the house - but when I was in my jakuzzi tonight- there were dozens and dozens of house martins flying really, really high- as high as skylarks - and there were 5 deer just above me by the woods. Took Emma (doglet) for a walk up to the woods just now as it got dark - and the bats were out in force. Got binocs to watch the deer, but they had gone back into the woods as darkness fell.

This morning, 3 hobbies were going crazy flying around the Church steeple in front of us - calling and swooping. They nest in a huge old pine tree just in front of us- feeding on 'our' swallows and other birds, and the massive dragonflies that hatch from the wild pond at the bottom of the garden.

Imagine if you could do that in mid-summer at the hour you posted at!

Oh, you can, thanks to summer time.

I love it! At last! We were back to 30C in Geneva yesterday with classrooms full of overheated teenagers...but today is Jeûne Genevois, a bank holiday to enjoy a lovely plum tart and a cup of tea while watching all this wonderful rain!

A lovely fauna description and a subtle hint that you can enjoy the luxury of a Jacuzzi while the rest of us are at work.

Or Zurich. It's still clinging onto the sunshine. At least for a bit longer.

Nice to see traditions being upheld. And that's a satisfying one to uphold, too!

Re: Weather!

... the point being that everyone had plums galore for free at this time of year, and made their own pastry with cheap local butter and flour - so eating plum tart saved the family lots of money- that they could then donate to charity.

Seems most people have forgotten about this bit - well the whole point actually.

It does rather ruin the jeûne aspect, though...

Yes. Obviously. That's why I included the circumflex, because I'm pretty sure there's no holiday for youthful people from Geneva.
