Yeah, it's pissing it down here too. But we really need it, as there's very little in the new snow-cannon reservoirs built last year in Champery. Apparently, as they've been built at 1800m they involve less pumping and can therefore run at higher temperatures, and they claim the ability to guarantee snow cover for skiing in just 24 hours as long as it's below zero. And as long as there's enough water, of course.

Groan!

Couldn't use the groan button as one shouldn't shoot the messenger.

Re: Weather!

Reservoir for snow cannons at our local French resort are being blamed for diverting much needed water from local rivers and underground water-tables. The Doubs river has been practically dry all Summer- never ever happened before.

The resort is strangely enough right on the water divide- to Rhône or to Rhine.

The problem is is that the weather is coming fron the West and these westerly systems have been pushed further north. They bring alot of rain and higher temps. The Northern weather with snow and below freezing temps has not yet kicked in. Pretty abnormal unhealthy weather at the moment. Especially for colds and grippe. The virus and bacteria love these higher temps. But it looks like its going to change soon to minus temps.

Rain, sleet and very strong winds over the next few days for most of Switzerland. Make sure everything loose is secured before it blows away.

well, we both said the same today - we moved here to have 'proper' seasons, and real winters, lots of fluffy snow, cold, dry and bright ...

today is again like a bad UK winter - wet and 'orrible doh

Re: Weather!

It's like the elements are against me, I got drenched to the last thread. Can't even have a grog or buttered rhum or anything, to stay un-creative during concerts.

What's up with this wet and cold frontal system.

I saw a brave man well over 70-75 (in a blue rainproof jacket, hello ), roughing it barefoot in sandals.

Here it's been going on since Friday, it must be about 48 hours by now, no end in sight and it is seriously getting on my nerves now.
As always I survive it well, even my little lavender is still sitting on the garden table when last night I had the impression even the big pots had flown off (but it was simply too dark to make them out). The garden is perfectly situated and protected by bushes and trees at the right points.

While my neighbours start picking up stuff, cover garden tables again (far too early obviously, it's not over yet) which they do 3-4 times a winter for years now when all it would take is thinking for 2 seconds to do it right once. But who knows, this might be the only joy the have during winter so who am I to spoil that?

I need to go to Germany tomorrow, so I want the wind to calm down by then and the rain to stop. A little sunshine would be the pleasant extra.

Yeah, it's been windy here since Friday and not due to die down until Monday. Also currently have a thunderstorm warning out as well until 10pm tonight.

Agree, today is again like a UK Winter/Autumn/Spring/Summer - wet and blustery.

But I love it here, 'cause people notice it! Finally a fresh wind and not too cold. Not often that you see the trees moving lately. Must be in my genes

Re: Weather!

Will be in UK from next week-end, when winter is supposed to arrive there. Thanks goodness we have good 4X4 with best quality winter tyres!
Friends looking after the house and cat will have my little Yaris, with good winter tyres on, and are used to driving on snow!
