Re: Weather!

Gorgeous day at Métabief Mt d'Or - and fabulous views of the Alps. We had it all, great snow, ice, porridge... but skiing with grandchildren at my age with two new knees is such a privilege.

Views of the Alps were fabulous too- if you want great views of the Alps, the Jura is the place, for sure.

Re: Weather!

Beautiful, sunny Spring day - helping me with the sadness of those little ones now on their way back to Surrey- so proud of yet higher badges from the ESI ski school- and having had a great week with just enough snow to have great fun, albeit with limited off-piste. Despite altitude, snow drops and crocuses are out- and some of the trees are beginning to bud, especially the alder- with a couple of bullfinches turning up this morning as they seem to love those buds- and a pair of red kites circling above the house- eyeing up the huge pine tree in the Church grounds in front of us. Wouldn't it be amazing if they chose to nest and raise young so close to my bedroom window

Re: Weather!

Will soon be morel (morilles) season- and badger watching evening in our local woods, as the cubs are probably born by now.

Re: Weather!

Washing drying in the sun and breeze in the garden- where I have spent most of the day doing pruning and early weeding, tidying. Lovely.

Well certainly does not feel this way, for sure. Wow, the sunset was amazing tonight, no?

Re: Weather!

but you were right- Winter still... today is cold and grey, but bright - and doesn't feel like Spring at all. As we say in French 'une hirondelle ne fait pas le printemps' (one swallow doesn't mean Spring is here)- I wonder if swallows will return early this year. We have loads of red kites at the moment, which is very unusual for February. Probably from the stock that now over winters by Lake Geneva, rather than those that migrate to AFrica.

Yes. Some years they like to stay at home

One has now " change of season" weather. The sun starts its way back to the north

Re: Weather!

Actually turned out sunny, blue skies- but a lot colder than yesterday. Still managed to dry rest of guest sheets and towels on line, and get a couple hours of gardening in.

Weeding early is so much easier, you can see the weeks really well, the soil is moist, and the perennial have not hidden them yet - a weed in time saves a lot more than nine!

It has been quite nice here all day, 17° which is way too warm for the time of year. They’re forecasting 18 for tomorrow.
One swallow doesn’t make a spring is the equivalent English saying.

I have cleared all my beds of all last years dried up leaves and stuff and weeded them. Will prune the caryopteris and ceanothus tomorrow.

Nobody. It's technically still winter, so some snow or rain and cold temps are fine.

Of course I like sunny days too, but my allergies have been insane and I welcome a break from them!

Sunny, blue skies and far too warm for the season- but with a steady breeze.

Re: Weather!

I keep feeling tempted to reopen the garden and start planting veggies.
To think that the "Eisheilige" are from 11th to 15th May - 2.5 months of torture ahead.
