To think that the "Eisheilige" are from 11th to 15th May - 2.5 months of torture ahead. | | | | | I hear you loud and clear!
I weeded yesterday as much as I could, thinned out the spinach and lambs salad, that are still out there. Cut the hortensias dried flower bulbs and did other minor stuff.
But I had the same urge as you, wanted to reach for the seed packages and start sowing
The one good thing is I won't have to wait for the Eisheiligen, I've 11 raised beds and use tunnels at the beginning, so I can start in April already

You know, as everything is out of the ordinary now, I wonder if the "Eisheilige" even matter anymore?

Ah Les Saints de Glace. Interesting question...
I do wonder when the first 'morilles' will be found up here. The hellebores are all in flower so it won't be long.
Pouring with rain and grey up here- seems like the grandchildren had the best week for skiing in the region. A disaster for lower altitude resorts- and all the income from lifts, shops, holiday accom, restaurants-ski school, and their salaries. Many only get paid when the resorts are running, with a few key staff on yearly salary
I certainly hope to get my skis on again- but probably will have to be high up in the Alps- Val Thorens, probably or perhaps Siviez/Verbier.

What an exciting life we lead up in t'mountains. Sunday and Monday, sunny warm Spring time, Tuesday Monsoon, woke up today to 20cm of snow, white out, horizontal snow. Better go out and hope it is the 'right kind of snow' - not for British Rail- but for our snow blower. | The following 2 users would like to thank for this useful post: | |

Snowed a little this morning, just about enough to cover the ground a bit, but stopped now. Nearly all melted off.

I put on my boots and headed out, bus came on time as usual.. Et voila, 40 mins and 500m descent later, blue sky and sun shining in Nyon.
Just checked my CCTV and it's still snowing at my place :-)

I should really get my arse into gear and clear some too, although it's now windy enough that a lot of the open surface is clearing itself.
Supposed to continue snowing on and off over the next few days, warming up just a little over the weekend (it's -3degC outside the house right now). Still not sure it will be enough to rescue the slopes returning towards the village from Chatel, which were getting very slushy/brown and partially closed at the weekend, and certainly not the South facing home run coming down to the Corbeau chair, which has been completely green for the last two weeks now. But for anything above 1500m or so it will provide a much needed season extension, as long as it doesn't suddenly get back to +15degC again.

Not skied down to Morgins from Châlet Neuf for some time. As we normally start from Torgon or Plan de Croix- we tend to go up and play around Chapelle, then over to Châlet Neuf and Châtel and then return by Tour de Don ...
And not skied the Foilleuse side since I was a kid and my uncle Felix had a Châlet right on the slope.
Yep, it got all sunny and winterwonderland after we finished clearing our large drive and patio- and now snowing like crazy again
John H- near St George or below?

St George has had a crap season, the little ski station there did't open at all, nor the cross country routes. Even right up on the Col Du Marchairuz has been pretty snow-free.

Yes, hard for the lower resorts. La Robella has not opened one single day, and Les Rasses just a few. Métabief Mt d'Or has done relatively well- and has had a lot of snow since yesterday (snowing like crazy again) - so should be able to open all runs soon.
Have a great British friend in SGeorge- reason I asked.

Weird!
Monday I woke my convertible from its winter sleep and went for a drive in the sun.
Yesterday and today major snow blizzards.

Just this year is quite weird, because it’s much later than usual. Also spring happened before winter...

It's snowing here in Greifensee... Maybe about a centimeter so far. It's nice to see the kids sledding on the hills behind our house. |
