As you somewhere are “up there” - did you witness the Aurora borealis (Northern lights) last night? The weather conditions and solar activity should also be perfect tonight to see this seldom happening in Switzerland.

They were beautiful from the Baltic Ocean here around Sweden.

Oooooh, I'm envious! I would love love luuuuuuv to see the aurora borealis. I hadn't realized that they were visible here last night! Go figure! They were probably not visible in my area, though... but I may have considered taking a long drive to see them.

You can’t really imagine it, until you’ve been in it - near the North Pole in the complete wilderness is best. Then you are just encompassed and in awe by this natural beauty spectacle that surrounds you if you are lucky! It leaves you speechless. The videos that capture it are usually in time-lapse mode, so they are fast, and photos also only capture a moment.

But when you are there, in real-life, they are simply magical:

My god.............. That is absolutely breath-taking!!!

Even just in the video! I can just imagine what it must be like to actually be there. I'd probably have a soulgasm.

To experience that is definitely at the top of my bucket list.

Re: Weather!

I’ve seen them multiple times inflight from western Europe to Western Canada and vv. Not true polar flights (as the don’t get that close to the North (magnetic) pole) but far enough north to give spectacular views. Winter is better as it is darker for longer.

Solar activity is very high at the moment.

Best ones I’ve had the luck and “soulgasm” when viewing were in Iceland, Northern Norway, Northern Finland, northern Sweden and also Danish islands (although not as strong). If you ever want to treat yourselves to a trip around Christmas, I’m sure your son would absolutely love combining it with husky-sledding, Northern lights hunting, orca and other whale watching, Arctic fjord fishing, snowmobile adventures etc. somewhere like Tromsø in Norway for example! It may change your lives, and definitely something for a bucket list!

Anyhow, as we both missed the ones in in Switzerland this week, the last super moon of the year should be brilliantly visible this coming Friday from around 19:-hrs. as a tiny consolation .

It's funny you wrote that, because literally just two days ago, I asked my son "If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you like to go?" And he thought about it for a second and said "Norway, to see the fjords."

That was an answer I wasn't expecting!

I think you will find that that was mid-2023, or earlier in Spring due to Sahara dust. We are now in October, so the “orange tint” you are now witnessing is highly unlikely to be due to adverse weather conditions. But I’m open to being otherwise informed - do you have a current link?

Far more likely to be the sunset over the fog, that is quite normal for autumn in Zürich. I see it as well right now - nothing unusual here.
Not even a white duck in-sight.

Actually, I guess we could be getting some of the "calima" (Sahara dust) that is hitting the Canary Islands right now. (And I only know this because we're leaving for Tenerife next weekend). I guess it's late in the year for that there, but they're having a heat wave right now.

I actually thought it did look a bit hazy out there today but didn't think to look at my car for any dust (that's usually where it seems to be most noticeable). I don't see much of an orange tint out there this evening, though.

Met office issues weather warnings for a Calima in the Canary Islands

Re: Weather!

So you are commenting as if it were today on on a slight, not noteworthy event that took place (somewhere in the Swiss Alps some time ago), as if it were this evening in Zürich?

Have you tried other interests?

It’s already clear that you deny climate change and natural bird migration patterns etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. from your previous posts.

Do you really need to also infect the “Weather” thread, or are you just desperate?

It was last weekend! And it was noticable in Zurich if you are capable of seeing such things. Have you been so negative for your whole life or is it a new phenomena?

With my passions as a videographer, photographer, very active nature lover and sketcher, I take offense at that. Why don’t you just stay on your own threads, and stop infecting these. There was a fascinating one about a white duck from you recently, among many.

"Infecting" the weather thread with my post about the smoke from Canada? Are you feeling OK?
