BTW: Have you noticed the level of Leman lake? It is pretty low and almost all snow has melted already.... It might be a dry year 2015...

If anything, it should increase the lake level Unless it drank considerable amount of water and then left to Neuchatel

Re: Weather!

A lot of electricity in the air this evening.

Fairly frequent lightning up until about an hour ago.

They artificially bring the level of the lake down every two years for walls maintenance etc...that's what my neighbour said anyway, and once in a while he does not make things up!

Actually, this is absolutely true.

Lake level can be controlled quite precisely.

Re: Weather!

I was planning to visit the Zürich Unterland "day of the open wine cellar" today but it is pi##ing down

Although wine cellar evokes an image of a smoky room with lots of stone and wood, sadly the reality is a series of open air events with plentiful rain water today keeping my wine glass full

Re: Weather!

Well it was certainly raining cats and dogs when we drove home via Lausanne this morning. What a welcome! After 2 weeks of warm sunshine, albeit windy (travelling around Southern Sicily) we got soaked walking to P51 car park- and 9C here up in t'mountains, doh.

Doesn't put the bloody kids off, though - still getting loads at the door, wailing like cats and expecting money.

Is that some sort of Fribourg tradition? We've never had it here but Medea Fleecestealer was moaning about it the other day and she lives over that way too.

Probably yet another bloody Catholic tradition, that this Canton seems to be plagued with.

'Sposed to be a way for the kids to get money for a Mothers' Day present ....... little gits will still be down in Denner, tomorrow, clearing the shelves of sweets.

Re: Weather!

It's raining cats and dogs outside right now, but my neighbour is adamant that "it's raining like a pissing cow" ("Il pleut comme vache qui pisse")!

Do you have your own regional / national colourful weather expressions? I am curious from a linguist point of view to see how many animals are associated with weather expressions.
