Just on way to England, quite glad to be honest, 5 days of this heat is plenty. !t seems we're never happy!

Yesterday's hail storm here was impressive. We normally get something straight down, very brief, and with only tiny hail. This was like a hurricane, winds going every which direction, with pea to marble-sized hail. All the neighbors came out on their balconies to admire and pick up pieces of hail. I hope no one's plants were too damaged, though. The bushes and trees certainly took a beating.

Having had some experience of hot weather in both countries (England and Switzerland) I'd still go for heat here rather than there. In England we had no blinds to keep the sun out, thick carpets on the floor instead of tiles which I can wash over to cool the place down a bit. There I had a very large south facing kitchen window. Didn't need an oven at all. Here I can open windows properly and get a nice breeze through at 6.30 a.m. when it is still comparatively cool. We have open air swimming pools and lakes where not only the sun is warm, but the water is too. There are mountains within a reasonable distance, where it is cooler. Only really 'negative' was living in a flat in Basel with no balcony and where having to go into the city in the afternoon in summer was BAD NEWS.
Anyway 2015 still has a long way to go to catch up with 1976 and 2003.
Hope I got the years right.

The sky just opened up and it's pouring like crazy here! + small hails!!!
The heat wasn't that bad here (elevation 800 m). For two evenings (Friday + Saturday) we had lots of rain + thunderstorms which cooled down the air considerably.

We've got one. Finally. We were in need of a good storm and this is a really good one.

Clouding over and has cooled down some here, but not really looking like it's going to storm yet. Fribourg city looks like it might get some though.

Open all windows wide at bedtime. Get up early (temporarily) to close all windows and draw all shutters/shades to keep the warmth out. Enjoy a cool apartment all day |

Wonderful rain! Some hail, rolling thunder, tentative lightning, and I feel happy. And grateful that I don't have to work outdoors.

Yesterday afternoon was rather pleasent - swapping between the BTCC (Oulton is not a good track for overtaking action); reading and snoozing under the brollies in my new super comfortable Lafuma chair; and relaxing in the 27c pool (having completed a hand scrubbing of the hard to reach places - the pool, not me).

That was quite a storm last night! I've never seen so much lightning, continual flashes lighting up the dark sky without a break in between. Amazing! Much cooler now, which is a relief.

Nothng in the end here. No grumbles, did make a very feeble effort to rain, but that was it. However it is cooler so hoping it's going to stay that way. |

| | Re: Weather! | Quote: | | | | Hey, welcome, bienvenue en Romandie. Yep, very unlucky with your arrival weather. The weather inb Northern Italy has been pretty dire lately according to the weather forecasts though! Just come back from 2 weeks in Southern Sicily, and we had great weather- but very windy some days and it was not the Foehn! Our hire car was covered in Sahara sand!
Lausanne and the lake is wonderful in Summer- won't be long now. Bonne chance. It's pretty dire up here in the Neuchâtel Jura mountains
Which part of Italy are you from. Our friends in Tuscany say this Spring has been awful so far! | | | | | I'm from a small town near Milan, so Northern Italy
And I can finally say that I'm really starting to love the weather here
We never went above 30°C in the past days, while in Italy they're all still suffering (33°C, no wind, asphalt everywhere)
There have been already some thunderstorms, including one approaching from the Jura right now
And, more or less, there always seems to be some wind somewhere around the lake
Plus, no mosquitoes so far |
