Re: Weather!

I keep yelling at the kids to close the door when they run outside - we need to keep the heat out. They love hanging out in our cool-ish master bedroom where I open windows and shutters only at night time. Also, it has an installed ceiling fan above the bed.

Re: Weather!

Just found the coolest place to hang out. Feeling lazy we went to our local Coop petrol station for some sandwiches for lunch, and they have AMAZING airconditioning! I was very tempted to spend the rest of the day there.

Apparently, due to some kind of elliptical orbit irregularities, Switzerland ends up nearer to the sun, every 12 years.
From what I read, it was a draught of hot air from North Africa that caused the current heatwave.

That was a might big draught to affect the whole of Europe!

Been a bit cooler feeling here today because we've had a BREEZE! Yippy!

Re: Weather!

Just got back from Yverdon - water was around 28C and the beach was JAM PACKED WITH CROWD! Fortunately we have found a quiet spot further up the shore

This morning when we got up, we noticed the neighbors had moved their bed out on to the balcony overnight. Seems like not such a bad idea tonight!

I slept in my downstairs "office" room last night which gets no sun all day, right under the open window..Apparently my snoring could be clearly heard from the street

Re: Weather!

Looks like there might be some T-storms overnight. Trying to decide if i need to move to the cellar now, or see wait and see if they materialize (they bother the pup).

Re: Weather!

A storm went over us at 3am, I was restless and awake because it was too hot so I went outside to watch the storm for a bit. It wasn't the biggest/longest storm I've seen but it's the closest I think I've ever been to a lightning bolt. I love storms but this one bolt terrified me I was shaking! It happened around 3.10, maybe 3.15 it must have been soooo close, it set an alarm off and woke our computer up from sleep mode!!! I'd wager it was no further than 400m away maybe even closer. The light was blinding and there was no sound delay, and the sound didn't sound like the usual boom or crack or rumble it sounded like a bang, like a bomb went off! It even "felt" close. It was old testament af! Told my family in the morning who'd slept through it and put it on fb but nobody really cares, so I'm telling it on this thread haha!

The storm was fun, but mopping floors at 3 in the morning due to pouring rain and closing windows a couple minutes too late wasn't quite as much fun

Sorry to disappoint. If they were having fun, I didn't hear them over the fan that kept my room at a pathetically cool 25 degrees.

Re: Weather!

There WAS a decent place to be in CH to get a reprieve from this heat wave: the Saas-Fee yodel festival at the week end. Hot in the day, but always with some nice air, NO pollution, almost "chilly" at night (I actually wrapped myself in my duvet!), glaciers all around...and FREE beer if you knew where to go! Coming back to Geneva was like stepping into hell.

Now, I'll open the bets and floodgates to all the derogatory comments on yodelling. Look, face, bovvered?

I saw a storm going over the Jura and was begging for it to come Geneva way, but Odile was not going to share it with anyone!
