| | Re: Weather! | Quote: | | | | | Not looking forward to this evening. The wind has whipped up here already in the Geneva countryside. Been out to make sure everything's put away. Washing only took 2 hours to dry! Brought it all in before my knickers end up in nextdoors garden. | | | | |
I had to get my teenage daughter in the middle of the lake! She was SUPing and the winds and currents got too strong, she could not make it back to shore by herself. Almost as scary as seeing you knickers fly off to neighbours' garden! | The following 4 users would like to thank McTAVGE for this useful post:

I think this 'storm' is beginning to look like elicit sex - all anticipation, a bit of huffing and puffing and dampness, and all over and done with before it really started.
The wind picked up, the clouds built up and the sky darkened, but after a few spots of rain, it's already calming and the sky's brightening.

No biggie | | | | | I did explore around the next day and found no evident signs. Unless it struck the lightning arrester on the church spire nearby- but that's a good 9 minutes walk away. | This user would like to thank vuachère for this useful post:

Was that it?
Five minutes of rain in Geneva??!! Everyone had their windows open and a man was shouting in the street... And people clapping... and happy.
We need a thunderstorm... Badly.
Nobody is sleeping properly, and waking up all sweaty and yucks is not nice.
A friend of mine put his three kids in a cool bath at 3 in the morning.

There have been a number of drownings in Switzerland these past few days, be careful everyone.

It's become extremely popular in my parts, with two rental shops to chose from.
I was thoroughly tempted, but a young guy actually drowned while using one, in the middle of the afternoon and not very far from the shore it sort of out me off trying |

| | Re: Weather! | Quote: | | | | | If there was very little or none sound delay then the bolt either struck your building or no further than 50-100m. Each 380m of distance in humid air adds a second of delay between flash and thunder Also, a thunder from up-close sounds like a poping baloon only magnified 1000 times. In case of multiple consecutive strikes in one point the sound will reverberate and then you might hear an echo from the local buildings. But if it activated the alarms in cars and caused short break in electricity supply, then it was your house which has been struck and the safety system preventing damages to equipment kicked in. Lucky it didn't fry your computer or TV | | | | | Wow eek! We live in a 5-storey modern building which I would imagine does have one of those lightning rod thingies. But there is a really, really big church about 150m away which is MUCH taller. Perhaps it was that? And yes, I suppose it did sound more like a balloon pop but ridiculously loud. I heard no reverberation just one big single bang sound. The light seemed to be all around. It "felt" close kind of quiet around it if that makes any sense, it was very very eerie. Felt like it was just me and the bolt! The alarm didn't sound like it was coming from the tiefgarage or the parking spaces outside though, it sounded a block away. I don't know whether the electricity went off or not as everything was off except for the computer which was "off" but just in sleep mode. If you wiggle the mouse while it's in sleep mode it comes on, and it came on so perhaps there was enough vibration in the building to have done that. It certainly wasn't me doing it, I was nowhere near it. This is all so really interesting! | Quote: | | | | | My freckles are doing well
My legs are still lily white. Oh the joys of being a red head. | | | | | My tan is insane! I got undressed today for my (2nd of the day!) bath and clocked my bottom in the mirror, it's SO white! The difference marks where my bikini has been is really quite impressive. I took pics but they're a bit NSFW | This user would like to thank Pixie B for this useful post:

| | Re: Weather! | Quote: | | | | | To save me camping out on the balcony at night these days ( besides not having enough room) I have stowed a couple of hot water bottles filled with cold water in the fridge. Bed time, i can place them on my feet or wherever needed, but especialliy I find under my shoulders and neck area help me to reach the land of nod with no fretting, that together with just a plain cotton sheet on top that I can pull on or push off as I like.
Keep cool till after school y'all, it will be over soon and then we will probably be moaning about the cold again. | | | | | Won't be sleeping on my balcony; look at the thermometer! Almost 30!

Yesterday around 7:30 pm, it got somewhat cloudy and windy. I promptly opened all the windows and promised the kids that if it rained I woykd run on the terrace naked and dance a happy dance.
Result? The sky cleared up, the storm never came, and we had another stifling sleepless night... | The following 3 users would like to thank Mélusine for this useful post:
