Re: Weather!

Rain, o glorious rain! Last night anyway...first cool night, I slept right through. Bliss! After a wonderful fondue at the top of Moleson and the beginning of some lightning, driving back from Gruyeres to Geneva was interesting with all the thunderstorms along the way, but what a show it made for my visiting relatives!

I had a sorry thought for all the poor party goers at Paleo Festival who must have had an interesting time!

Oye. Who are you calling an old dear? There may be some on here but I am definitely not one of them yet.
Getting close though and you are the one quibbling

But then, I am with Shakespeare on this one. He invented 1700 words- so often based on foreign words...

like 'zany' from Giovanni, and this one which is quite apt 'to rant' from the Dutch 'randten' = to talk foolishly From Hamlet 'I'll rant as well as thou'

I thought it was refreshing, for once, to see modern English invaded by foreign words. There are of course 1000s and 1000s of foreign words in English. Why call something an 'anorak' when you could so easily call it a 'winter jacket'- or a 'pizza' when you could so easily call it a 'savoury tart'. But I am not quibbling, just sayin'

After last night's storm, which did eventually come- it is windy today and much cooler with patchy blue sky and sun in and out.

MCTAVGE- 'Du Molèson, on voit ta maison?'

Re: Weather!

Windy today, fabulous sky ranging from dark, heavy gray strata to the east and blue with big clouds to the west. And much, much cooler. Ahhhh.

Odile: non, pas de maison depuis le Moléson...mais quelle vue et quelle fondue! Et les meringues et crème de Gruyères pour digérer!

Paleo was indeed interesting! We happened to be under cover when the storm struck, sitting down for food.. Surrounded by the lightning, couple of the stage closed down during it too.. Then when faithless came on after midnight.. Bang, rain again!!

It was mud city!

Hope you haven't spent too much on that new 'air con' system- a drop of about 25C overnight!

Re: Weather!

When i was much younger. i was sort of in love with Paul Weller. And this song - Long Hot Summer.

https://youtu.be/1CAzwewVjZ0

Nothing to do with the weather at the moment. Just a nice song.

Re: Weather!

Greyish and a bit windy- and so much cooler than before- so off to paint the doors in the upstairs corridor, been far too hot to decorate- and then the guest suite will be ready! Hurrah. Neighbours got back from Corsica yesterday- and they were shocked how cold it was. Thank goodness the yellow parched lawn was proof that ti has been so hot here, or they wouldn't have believed us.

Re: Weather!

My sister and her family are having a holiday in Provence, then on their way home (flying from Geneva) they are spending 1st August in Geneva, watching fireworks etc. We are hoping to meet them there and spend a few hours with them. Sadly the forecast for Saturday is rubbish.

Spending time with your family will bring enough sunshine to your day so the 'actual' weather doesn't matter. ( good weather would just be an added bonus)

Re: Weather!

Now today is what my mother (and grand-mother) would have called perfect English Monday weather. Monday was washing day and spin driers and tumble driers not even dreamed of by science fiction writers. A hand-turned mangle was the best we could do.
A bright sky and the long lines of washing drying in a fantastic breeze was compensation. Ah yes, I remember it well.
