Re: Weather!

A few of us were swimming in the Rhine this evening when the storm broke. Very windy at first, and the river became very rough; almost like being in the sea. It was amazing fun! Then a touch of hail then rain then the thunder and lightening came.

Unsure what would happen if lots of lightening struck the water, we and most others decided to get out. It was a lovely feeling, walking around in warm heavy rain in our swimming clothes, hence not caring about getting wet. Found a bar, had a beer and came home. Now it's stopped raining.

I have a view of Lake Neuchatel from our house windows. There's a sailboat out in the middle with it's sail down (smartly). Then all hell broke lose and I can't see the boat anymore although I saw it 5 minutes ago. It couldn't be out of view that fast, just hope it is lost from my view in the waves and white caps.
The boat on the video here?

Re: Weather!

As I said earlier, the Scottish weather has arrived with our son! Poor thing, he has not seen any sunshine for two months and was hoping to get his dose of heat in Geneva, after hearing for so long from his mum and dad how unbearably hot it was in Switzerland!

And how are you supposed to dry a VERY substantial amount of laundry brought by said darling (no electric drier here, it's all outside or in the living room!)??

We are having a "bright" interval too, I would not say it's warm, though. Still, if His Lordship's laundry can breathe a bit, all the better!

Re: Weather!

Incredibly heavy rainstorm just now; looking out of the window the rain looked like a white wall and visibility was down to less than 100m for a short period.

Sure, but that's how the weather always is in Here. The weather may be better over There.

Re: Weather!

17:00 heard loud, gusty wind. Went to check and was just in time to see, through a white veil of rain and small hailstones, the 3 meter diameter trampoline roll down the slope, over the sunflowers and tomatoes.

I went the other way a couple of weeks ago. And slept like a baby for seven hours every night without that heat....

It was around 23 degrees in Edinburgh. We even had a barbie!! And sat in the garden. It did rain one day, which is good - it was the day i was going to go into town and hit Princes Street!! So i saved a bit of money.

Gonna be hot this weekend - 30 in Geneva. It's the St Jean Fete de la Rue - if anyone is interested.

Re: Weather!

Sunny, beautiful and roasting hot. Hope my repotted lovely palm tree will survive and thrive! Any suggestions as to how often I should water it (it's my first )? I thought a gentle watering of the soil (200ml of water) whenever soil is dry (finger to second knuckle inserted comes out without soil attached) and spritzes of the leaves with water every other day would be fine. What do the gardeners think?

It's placed in a location that gets loads of sunlight for 3/4 of the day. (south window).

Thanks for any advice.

Put some expanded clay (Blähton) at the bottom of the pot (which has holes in it) and put the pot in a saucer so that I'd immediately see if there's too much water in it.

Re: Weather!

Don't keep it in full very hot sun it will scorch (they are raised in greenhouses)- main thing is, did you put some broken crocks or large lumps of polystirene at the bottom- so excess water can drain. More plants die of over, than under, watering.

It was around 36 in the sun (late morning). Currently, in the shade, it is 30.

Re: Weather!

My outside temp gauge on the sunny wall hit 41.1 again a little while ago!

Staying the same until Tuesday when rain is forecast here continuing into Wednesday, then partially sunny again, but not so HOT! 21 on Friday and 20 on Saturday.

Make the most of the current weather as it's likely to be the last of any really hot stuff until next summer now. Thank goodness.
