Hah that explains inexperience in atlantic weather

No, memory ok but over the Leman I have never experienced a temperature lower than 1-2 C below zero (probably one year is not enough but still). That is of course the lake effect and in the mountains it will be appropriately cold. But again, you can go to Poland and experience -25C sometimes

And no, I'm enthusiast of long, warm weather spells but not the type you will get in Po Valley down south in Italy. So there, I chose right :P
You haven't been here long enough. First year we were here it was -10/-15° in Yverdon and that's not unusual.

I come from the north of England so I'm well acquainted with both the North Sea and Atlantic weather.
Long warm weather spells are the exception rather than the rule in Switzerland so don't count on it happening every year.

Ahh now we are properly introduced
Yverdon can by very different with the weather pattern than Leman region. But yes, you are completely right, 1 year data (two summers so far) is not enough to draw conclusions I, nevertheless, enjoy greatly what I experienced so far in terms of the weather. I miss the snow though...lots of snow

Re: Weather!

Basically when I say cold weather, I was looking in the region of 0 to -5 as acceptable "cold" weather. Anything colder and I might have to put on some heating.
I am happy in short pants and a T shirt when it is anything over 10deg. When it gets over 30 that is just too hot and when there is no breeze or moisture in the air, it sucks the life out of you.
40+ was just not made for human consumption.
29 with a gentle breeze and a few light clouds, I would happily lie by a lake.

First day of meteorological autumn. Nicely windy and cloudy. Even seasons are punctual here

Same here, but none of the predicted rain yet. Actually calming down a little wind-wise here, was very windy this morning.

Have seen a few leaves on the trees opposite are turning brown so yes, autumn's on its way.

Re: Weather!

It was very stinky around here this morning which is a sure sign that rain is on the way and the farmers are muck spreading.
Sure enough we have just had a torrential downpour which I wouldn't have minded were it not for being at the local tip when it happened.

They were here too, wondered why it smelled a bit but that explains it. Still waiting on the rain though. It's sort of trying, but only a few spots of rain on the windows so far.

Reasonably sunny day then a huge clap of thunder, torrential rain - now 5 minutes later the sun is shining again

Believe I just saw Noah and his ark go floating by the Port d'Ouchy on Lac Leman. This has been the most rain I've seen all year. Anyone heard what the snow line altitude is supposed to be today?

Most of those are as often wrong as they're right - even with weather that's already happened, let alone forecast weather.

No ..... the old fashioned stone method is still the best.

Re: Weather!

Weather forecast has changed everyday lat week and got it wrong each time. Poured all the way to Murten/Morat yesterday but then had a lovely, sunny warm day there with visitors. They left for the Uk this morning in pouring rain- and since mid afternoon it has been lovely again! Last night was very windy and very hot at the same time- bizarre! But cold tonight.

Stuck inside as I managed to catch the cold from hell and knee so swollen can hardly walk!

Re: Weather!

Poured all morning, especially when I had to go to the other part of the city, of course... and now there are no clouds (there has to be some Föhn-like effect, although there is no wind up to 10m... JakubB, please explain this wizardry )
