No you are not strange. One of the things I so love in winter in the Jura is the light- that very very special night you get with the sun, huge blue skies and that twinkly snow- it is so so special, truly and I am NO photographer (OH is).

This light has in fact influenced the Jura in very profound ways- and was the reason why watch and clock making developed here in the 1700s. Farmers couldn't farm, obviously, in winter due to snow- but their farm were built with at least one large window facing Sout- with the light reflected on snow giving them perfect condition for artisan watch-making. This is how our neighbour (well ex neighbour, that was in 1760s) began his apprenticeship here with his step dad. So interesting how geographical conditions do affect a lot more than we sometimes imagine.
Wow what an interesting story. Yes light affects so much! I work all over so I totally see that in my work

I just need a lovely background for a good night snow/pretty sky photograph now

Not sure where you are - but fabulous snow pictures to be had with the lake in Vallée de Joux perhaps?

Not sure where you are in Vaud- but fabulous snow pictures to be had with the lake in Vallée de Joux perhaps?

Also famous for watch.making which started with peasant/artisan watchmaking, and now the seat of Breguet watch-making (our ex neighbour was Breguet) and Audemar Piguet and Jaeger Lecoultre.

And of course why La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle went the same way (Nardin, Rolex, Ebel, Reymond Weil, and so many more).

The sun is out now and it is a winter wonderland with 'that' special light.

Re: Weather!

Quite a lot more overnight - and snowing again heavily now. All local ski resorts opened and cross-country pistes too.

Lots of pictures on FB of family and friends in Surrey and the Midlands of families playing with the snow there too.

Edit at 14.17 - and now big patches of blue skies and sunshine- all twinkly again.

Went to Saignelégier today and xc skied in a blizzard for an hour or so, and then a mix of sunshine and cloud. Only 1.5 hours from Basel and loads of trails.

Do you mean here?

http://www.saignelegier.ch

Went there a couple of years ago ( snow shoe rather than XC skiing) and it was rather nice.

Re: Weather!

Lovely out there today in the Geneva countryside. Good few cms fell during the night. I have had a stomp in the snow & saw a red squirrel bouncing around.

Re: Weather!

Red or brown - the 'red' squirrels here (same family) are all brown, with tufty ears. Never seen a 'red' squirrel in CH (lots in Scotland though)

If it was brown, I would have said brown LOL. Definately a red one. I have seen him before & named him Cyril. Last time he was right outside the bedroom window in our garden. Today he was in the neighbours garden then went across the communal driveway.

Re: Weather!

Must agree with you about red squirels.

About 7 years ago i had two of them dancing around in the trees in Charmilles, running around and loving life!!

The Cat tried to chase them!! And got stuck like Garfield up a tree. Oh, how i laughed.

They came back a year later. The Cat tried the same thing, and off they went jumping about. And he sulked!!

The next year they weren't there. They were a bit of wildlife in Geneva that i just loved watching from my kitchen window.

Which were immune from my cat. They teased him!! Not many tease a cat on the prowl.

Luckily he didn't drag one in. As a present.
