Re: Weather!

We have just had lightening which temporarily cut our electrics - a blizzard with a sidewards strong wind which covered the cars in snow within a minute and even the green carpet on my balcony keeps lifting!!

Re: Weather!

Strong winds and heavyish rain here with a couple of grumbles of thunder, but it's died down now for a little while. No snow yet - too warm. My outside temp gauge says 10C!

Re: Weather!

Incredibly windy at the moment.

My windows are supposed to be well sealed but my curtains are blowing around as if they were outside; nor inside.

Never saw that before

Re: Weather!

Just had a look at meteocentrale's danger forecast and I can only say I wish the UK's were as detailed.

"On 2016/02/09 at 18:10 local time a severe thunderstorm of level orange was detected. The center is located in the community of Goumoens-la-Ville. The storm is approaching from southwest and is moving in northeastern direction at a speed of 90 km/h. Regional heavy rain and isolated storm gusts are possible. Local hail of small size can not be ruled out. The lightning activity is weak. The severe thunderstorm is expected to cross the following communities: Penthéréaz (18:10), Echallens (18:10), Assens (18:10), Daillens (18:10), Eclépens (18:10), Bavois (18:10), Vuarrens (18:10), Bercher (18:13), Ogens (18:15), Thierrens (18:17), Surpierre (18:21), Granges-près-Marnand (18:23), Marnand (18:25), Middes (18:27), Mannens (18:29), Noréaz (18:31), Grolley (18:33), Belfaux (18:35), Düdingen (18:39), Bösingen (18:43), Wünnewil (18:45), Flamatt (18:47), Thörishaus (18:49). The arrival time of the storm is stated."

Pretty much right on time (1830-1845) we had the thunder and nearly lost the satellite picture because of the weather outside.

Re: Weather!

A few inches of fluffy snow overnight after that scary storm. Clear today, but still a bit windy.

Towing or riding it back? It's snowing here, not quite laying on the roads yet, but is on the ground surfaces.

Riding. The garage is in Rizenbach so I'll have to see I guess!

Hopefully not too early. Shady spots on the road need time to warm up and melt (black ice).

Be careful. Used to do a Polar Bear run every year in Chicago (New Year's Day M/C Ride). Road conditions aside, wind chill makes frostbite easier to occur.

Re: Weather!

Roads are starting to get snow covered here too so yes, check weather before you set off tomorrow. Snow here doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon.

Re: Weather!

Heaviest fall of snow this year, authorities have been caught out as no sign of any snow plough activity at all. Hope the OH makes it home okay. Have your lot arrived yet Odile?

They seem to have been caught out in Neuchâtel too. I just drove back from town and the roads are atrocious.

Re: Weather!

Mr. Big called when he left the office in Morges at 4 p.m. to drive to Chatel, so we will see how long it takes--it's normally about 1 hour 10 minutes. He said the roads in Morges as well as the autoroute are not plowed and traffic is jammed up everywhere and at a standstill.

Here in Chatel it has been blizzarding since around 2 p.m. and I'll bet we've received a good 30 cm in the last 3 hours. The plows can't keep up and the few cars driving by are all using chains.

Be careful, everyone!

That's the beauty of this country - unlike the UK, a bit of unexpected snow doesn't grind everything to a halt! Oh, wait ....

Expect the OH is caught up in it too as he's coming from Lausanne. Looked at the truckinfo.ch website and all I can see are warnings and notices of roads closed due to accidents/broken down vehicles.
