I do not see anybody staring, but I daily see people queuing (in Migros, Coop, Aldi, Lidl, etc)

Thank you for the compliment. There are far worse things people can do.

Exactly. Like, for example, some immigrant almost bumping into you in ZchHB

Re: Swiss Stare

I think it's rude. I look away, pause, look back. (They're still staring.) I look away, pause, look back. If they're still staring, at this point I say "Staring is very rude, what's your problem?" They bluster. Very very rarely continue to stare but if they do I have something to say about that too.

Sorted.

Re: Swiss Stare

Funny how people expect other people to act, isn't it? Take me I much prefer people looking at me openly, than being watched hiddenly. You know the way some people do, like eying you from the corner of their eyes pretending they don't notice you? This is so creepy.

Or people complaining about things like this haven't understood that they aree not in their own back garden anymore and therefore can't accept that to be in another country means to come across other habits than they sre used to?

I think most people accept that, likewise, Switzerland is often not the only country people have been to, where small detail like this is not noted as much as it is here, so it becomes a talking point as thus it's clearly a common trait of the people.

The queue issue is perhaps more common elsewhere as well, not everyone does this, not to the extent that the Brits work themselves up about it anyway. But staring is considered kind of creepy and weird in most places and countries I have been to, particularly amongst people whom, upon sight, are not so different to stand out in a different culture.

Watching people is a common passtime in many European countries not only in Switzerland.
