I remember long hair in porn...short in everything is better these days.
A lot of what has been fashion in the last fifteen years is taken directly from porn imagery. The extremely high heels started the trend, the former holy rool "either lots of clivage or lots of legs but not both" died with the porno chic movement and the long hair with no trace of natural colour left whatsoever ended the look that has dominated since the early 2000ies. Even the come back of modernised corsets belongs in this movement.
Add to that the huge transparency trend from the 90ies that women didn't want to give up throughout the porno chic years and the streets were rurned into a 90ies porn set. Even middle school yards reflect those trends nowadays. I don't care about it, I will never tell a woman how to dress, I am just amused.

What if the short haor trend was just a way out of porn imagery in fashion? Trends are by definition changing, and long hair might survive or come back in a different setting that porn aestherics. We'll see.

But as Sandgrounder pointed out above not everyone is blessed with long, thick, flowing locks.
Regardless of how pretty a face is I don't think long thin straggly hair is very flattering.
I have rarely seen a woman below 40 that has hair so bad that it doesn't look better longer than shorter.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_hair

Long hair has been considered attractive to both genders throughout history.
Short hair does take a fine and beautiful bone structure to carry off.

Can you please re-write that in a way that actually makes sense? Thanks in advance.

Yes.. but if a woman has irregular features, she's better off with longer hair.
Short hair attracts the eye immediately to the shape of the face etc.

Re: Short Haired Women

My long lustrous locks started to get a bit stringy about a year ago (I am fifty) last month i chopped them off to chin length.

The difference in a month is remarkable, my hair is shinier and thicker. I shall grow it longer again, but perhaps not to half way down my back. Just to have the choice of a ponytail, at the moment it's a stubby joke.

It still feels odd when i brush it!!

Oh, and men that complain about the length of women's hair should take a hike. It is our hair and we shall do as we like with it.

Off course, Sky, but don't make my message sound more simplistic than it was. There will be long hair without porno chic too, as there was long hair before. The context of porn aestherics as a trend in fashion includes some styles of long hairs and many other features. The erotic aspect of long hair isn't a creation of the porn industry, I trusted readers here to be smart enough not to reduce my argument to a wrong short cut.

The bimbo look doesn't constitute the only stylemof long haired woman. To a certain extend, one can say the american west coast bourgeois look is long haired and tries to be the opposit of bimbo. Stil, It doesn't mean that glamour, erotic and porn didn't mingled into an ambiguous aesthetic trend. When a west cost or Florida bourgeoise wants to be sexy, how far does she manage to stay from porn imagery? Fashion has many answers to that, none of them eludes the erotic imagery totally.

I know it's off topic to you, but lips injections belong to the same trend. What used to be vulgar is now glamourous. In the mean time, porn evolved also to another aestetics and mise en scène of the desire, so that at any given time, glamour and hores are distinguished, but only at a given time.

Re: Short Haired Women

i once went into a wife and husband hairdresser and the husband started flirting with me and the wife cut my hair, i came out with a crew cut, after overcoming my reluctance to go to work the next day, the look on one of the older mens face was so shocked and horrified i had to hold back tears, one of the oolala men in the office saw the exchange because he sat close to me and came over and told me how much he liked my hair.

im not sure what that story has to do with my next comment but try stopping dying your hair too.
i just think its unusual for a woman to be her authentic self hair wise. its a billion dollar industry of smoke and mirrors after all and and that means sex is involved in hair choice, and that is long and not grey. i think its all part of that message we are not much use/fulfilling our purpose unless someone wants to nob us or at least we are trying to get someone to nob us.
which i still find somewhat sad.

Re: Short Haired Women

I dyed my hair from my mid 20s till almost 56. I was getting tired of it, but there's no graceful way to let the gray come in. How lucky then that I should have lost all my hair. A perfect opportunity to grow it back without dye. Now it's shoulder length and happily gray.

I suppose the crap women get about long hair is no less than what men receive about bald spots. There's nothing worse, however than stringy, greasy hair.

Oh well, everyone needs a topic of conversation!

Re: Short Haired Women

I have never had really long hair. Chin-length bob was my longest.
I've never been short of admirers.
Actually, the men who like short(er) hair are usually the kind of guys I get on with best
Just my experience.

Oh - and did someone mention knobs? Long or short..?

Re: Short Haired Women

I wouldn't over estimate the power of porn. It just feeds into what people have desired since they existed. It only markets it, packages it well.. But it does not teach people what to desire, I don't think. Nor do magazines. I am too nonconforming for my own good, really, but my hair has always been traditional. Long, kept, by itself really. For once, it is easier to make it pretty than all the blowdrying and sticky products and evil routines, and, because I like it that way. On others, too. I wouldn't dye it, either. I find it classy and feminine. Women are Sirenes by nature, anyways. It's funny the way it tickles on my back and flows in the wind, it feels good. Plus it is practical, it takes me 5secs to twist in in a bun and stick a pencil or a chopstick in there and still look groomed. It only gets pita when it is so long one sits on it, closes it in the car door or gets in in the guitar sings, ski lift, etc. I also like having hair so long it doesn't really fall into whatever trend there is. If I had it shorter, I would have to worry about maintenance more, hair styles, etc. I cut it once a while and send it to a charity for kids with permanent hair loss, since it is hard to have real blond hair donors for those little girls who are naturally blond.

I also have really long hair. So women, how do you feel about the length of a man's hair?

Re: Short Haired Women

Hm, interesting.

On one hand there is Number7 [and few others] ridiculously generalising things and an article written by an obviously deranged person, and than I have me who personally will forever be an advocate of and finds nothing more beautiful than long hair [the longer the better ] - in BOTH genders [men with long hair are my absolute weak spot ].

But! There are women who look STUNNING with short hair and/or even bad with long hair [depending on their face shape, features, hair quality, hairstylist quality...] and therefore should wear it short - and it certainly won't definite or determine their femininity, beauty, how much their put into their looks, etc.

However I do agree that noooothing should be done because of a trend set by the alleged trend setters - "do what thou wilt" in order to be truly happy and feel amazing about yourself is really the only way everyone should go.

And just to conclude

I like long hair on men, unless they are a bit baldy, and have a pathetic little ponytail at the back. But a man with long hair, who looks after his hair is wonderful. And also a man who understands that it takes an hour to dry the damn stuff!!!

There was no hairdryer in my house when i had one of the above men!! We sat around gently air drying our hair....!!! Then he just cut it all off. Fashion trends also come into hair length for both men and women.

I don't think porn dictates how people live, but it has had a significant impact on what women, atleast American women feel they have to do to attract the attention of a man.
When I was in highschool, I found two girls kissing an awesome turn on. Now, girls do it for everything, even if they aren't remotely interested in girls. They do it for attention, for free drinks, to get their picture taken, to get on tv...And I think people have the impression that women are more independent sexually then they were 20 years ago.

But the fact is, women are doing so much more then they did before to get our attention. The Porno "star", basically any girl who decides to take her clothes off and get debased for 5 to 20 minutes can call herself a star. A normal person who is an actor, so has several small parts, and are far more well known will be called a supporting actor at best. Porno "stars" gave a lot of influence to pop culture.

Desperate Housewives used to be an advert in the back of Penthouse, and other pornography. I mean who talks something so "dirty" and turns it into a prime time show, and gets away with it, if porn doesn't have an influence?

I brought up the (wait for it), shaved thing, because, well isn't everyone these days, atleast everyone under 30. And where did that come from? Better hygene(well that is what I get told from the Swiss, anyways)?

I am not saying that cause people are shaving down, they are also shaving up, but there is a connection to taking situations out of porn and applying them to day to day life.

I hate that too. I told myself if it ever gets to that point I am going to go Kojak style, and try that out.

I was at my hairstylist two days ago, and she looked thru mine and told me it was, although I have always had fine hair, still very full. So I am thinking about making them into dreds, neat ones. Because when they do start to go, then there will be no place for spotty baldness and rasta hair.
