A friend of mine lives by the roadworks at Neugasse in Kreis 5 and the workers start the machines at 7.02 and make a hell of a racket for about 30 minutes before what seems like an hours break for breakfast before carrying on at 8.30.

That's one thing that I just don't understand.
Isn't it the way everywhere in the country? It certainly was the case for the 6 months work that took place in front of my building!

I find it extremely annoying that it's perfectly legal to make all the construction noise you want at 7 in the morning six days a week but if you dare to recycle your glass bottles at five past eight at night you can be fined...

Doesn't make it any better, does it?

Certainly not! My point was that this is not a Zurich oddity but is unfortunately a Swiss specialty!

Morning all!

Since I moved here in late April it seems like they've been slowly working their way around the whole of Zurich City digging up the main roads and confusing public transport. This of course affects everyone and is not my complaint, but there are some works right outside my bedroom window and almost every morning they make as much noise as possible between 7 am and 8 am (I'm talking pneumatic drills, shouting and some kind of steam-emitting machine), and then when I come home during the day all is calm. I find this quite annoying, especially since even recycling on a Sunday is forbidden for fear of disturbing those who apparently like to have a nice lie-in in the surrounding factories

Forgive me for my ignorance and temporary lack of German skills (and consequent inability to ask a local), but does anyone know what the b'jeezus they're doing? Is it like this every year?!
YES. It is like that EVERY year, at least from April until November

It does not matter in what April

and to start at 07.00 and make breaks later is the same procedure as EVERY year

Re: Roadworks in ZH

Sorry to dig this up (pun intended)!

Is there anywhere online where I can find the dates/schedule for the road works currently going on next to Romerhof station? I would just like to know roughly when they will be finished..
Thanks!
