Zurich airport staff in baggage fine prize draw

Source is dodgy
http://www.thelocal.ch/20140821/zuri...ine-prize-draw

but seriously, if this is true then this is a new low on customer servicing in Switzerland..

not sure I am if I am going to choose Swiss Air as default going forward , even though it looks like I will be stuck with Zurich airport for most air travel

Re: Zurich airport staff in baggage fine prize draw

How can it be a fine? Surely it is a fee - for a service received - in this case carraige above the amount specified in the original contract.

The staff is said to target older or otherwise inexperienced travelers who are not aware that they can re-pack some luggage to avoid the excess-charges.

Re: Zurich airport staff in baggage fine prize draw

This is normal. There has long been staff incentives for dishing out excess baggage charges and also selling upgrade, extra legroom seats etc. the airlines make a lot of money out of this, they know staff need an incentive to not let excess baggage slide!

SWISS to reward employees charging fines for extra weight

Read it this morning in 20min.

Reward is in the form of a draw for 2 free SWISS tickets when the target of the overweight fines has been met. So far it is in Zurich airport, but could expand to other airports.

Heads up! Expect them to be a bit tougher on any extra few grams.

Re: SWISS to reward employees charging fines for extra weight

About time one airline adopted a stand.

The times I've travelled with the family, and painstakingly checked our luggage wasn't overweight (unlike the missus), only to see others at check-in blatantly taking the piss - and getting away with it ..... despite everything that the airlines declare about charging for excess baggage, or sending it on a later flight.

I know it happens, but I've never seen it.

Phew, you mean the luggage. I thought we would have to start entering our BMIs and paying accordingly when flying!

Tbh this is the way it should be.

People have to pay extra for more luggage and more weight means more fuel etc so a 150kg chub chub with 20kgs should pay more than a 80kg average with 20kgs.

They'll be pleased you've given your OK - it makes all the difference, when the thread 'owner' gives permission for their thread to be deleted.

With 4-seater GA planes, it's imperative that passenger weights are known for weight and balance calculations.

Re: Zurich airport staff in baggage fine prize draw

In Geneva a few weeks ago Swiss was using automated bag drop machines that don't let you go more than 1kg over, the first time I'd seen such things. You weigh the bag yourself and if it's OK you put on the tags it gives you, no staff required. Looking sheepishly at the machine didn't persuade it to let my overweight bags through.
