@Richdog- watch whom you are calling a ninny. I have received emails from the so called spam email address you mention and it's a genuine email. It merely gives you a link to track your order.

I am not one that falls for spam emails.

It further follows up with an email from cs@aasfreight.com even saying that it has been handed over to Swiss Post and no further action needs to be taken. Now if that was spam, logically wouldn't they ask me to pay customs and steal my money?

I have ordered from Next numerous times, and have received emails from this address ALWAYS. Note- I have NEVER paid customs.

So before you start childish namecalling, get your facts straight. I am a very recent customer of theirs and so I have first hand information. So guys don't fret!
I have not ordered anything in over 6 months.

Put the email address mailer@ffdx.net into Google... do you think it looks legit does it based on the hits? https://www.google.ch/search?q=maile...m=122&ie=UTF-8

The site that comes up as the first hit for that email address... It's broken and unfinished. https://www.ffdx.net/

In years of ordering from nextdirect.com I have only ever received emails to confirm my order from Info@nextdirect.com... and yet funnily enough I have no confirmation from them to confirm my imaginary order. Strange that, ain't it?

@Richdog- I don't have to prove anything to you, but the other people who actually take your word and believe it!

Info@nextdirect.com just merely gives you a confirmation of what you have ordered immediately after making the transaction. The mailer@ffdx.net gives you TRACKING details. cs@aasfreight.com gives you information if to take further action or not. Hope this is clear enough now.

A spam email or a fake email is intended to fool the user out of his/her money. Why can't you justify the fact that this email does NOTHING of the sort? It doesn't make sense to just email a person with tracking details of an order they placed for fun!

And yes, that's your problem. You haven't ordered anything in the last 6 months. I HAVE. If you may not be aware, websites change their mode of operation many times. They have changed the carrier they use to ship items as far as I am aware now.

I even have the email I received from them after placing the order. So please go and impart your 'wisdom' elsewhere.

If somebody can maybe rope in Next customer service and prove this to other customers it would be helpful. I think I have made my experience clear enough and it definitely is not a spam email.

I can't agree if I have never received a mail from them, and have ordered nothing. At the least it's very suspicious, especially given the above links.

Re: Gaah! Very pissed off! [Next Direct import charges]

I've had emails from cs@aasfreight.com after placing Next orders. These emails give links to the to the post.ch tracking page for the shipment.

Nothing sinister there.

I wouldn't have had an email about duty etc as my orders have always been below about 30 CHF.

I will investigate with Next then and see what they say... I guess it could be a mistake? Either way, stuff like that sends my radar into overdrive, especially as I have never received a mail from that address before, and the Google results are sketchy at best!

Am fully willing and not too proud to eat some serious humble pie if it turns out to be legit!

I would have been suspicious too if I'd received such an email without having placed an order and I would hope so would most other people too. You can't be too careful with stuff like that.

Having said that I would have contacted Next directly to see what they said before publicly posting it as a scam. Mistakes do sometimes happen.

I'd be very interested to find out what the outcome was though.

Re: Gaah! Very pissed off! [Next Direct import charges]

I have contacted Next as well citing this thread.

Of course it's suspicious if you receive an email if you haven't placed an order! But I think that's common sense to know that, not just for Next but every company you come across.

I mainly was talking about the email you receive from mailer@ffdx.net AFTER you place an order. That is definitely not spam. I have ordered my baby's clothes always from Next and I ALWAYS receive their email.

So I wrote to the lady that Odile was in touch with over a week ago - no response, not even an acknowledgement of my message. Pretty poor form if you ask me. I took the time to clearly show what was wrong with how AAS Freight does their importing, even providing a copy of how it is done correctly for comparison.

Do you think I am going to be charged freight by the shipping company? If so not worth ordering.

This is so bizarre. Why did she acknowledge my message, and even take the trouble to phone me here in Switzerland, listen to me and assure me she would take action. I mean, if she didn't want to reply to messages- she would not bother to phone me- she seemed to be really interested and keen to sort the problem out. Strange.

I've never ordered from them- although I like Next- a good Leicestershire firm. Perhaps I should try just to test the system. I go to UK often, so always buy stuff when I am there.

Well, I can share my personal experience, I have ordered 5 times from Next, all with a value of 60 Fr or lesser. I haven't been charged tax on all these orders. However there have been other people on here who have said they have been charged when they have ordered 40 Fr worth of stuff. So I am really not sure!

Even I had written to Next regarding this, since there seems to be so much conflicting information but I guess the expat market in Switzerland doesn't matter to them.

I hope they would clarify though.

If you don't want to chance it, make two orders (both need to be over CHF 25) for free postage so buy a pair of socks or something to make each of the two separate orders just over CHF 25.

Re: Gaah! Very pissed off! [Next Direct import charges]

One problem I had, was that the postage was free…. but Next didn't make this clear on the invoice… so the freight carrier just "made up" a postage charge which took me over the tax threshold. I queried it by email with AAS but got no answer.

Based on my experience, you will be charged. So disappointed at Next in the handling of all this. They have lost me as their customer. Thankfully ASOS now does tall sizes too.

So I sent another message to the contact person and cc'd the international complaints team - they responded with a personal message on the same day. Apparently they are looking into it but progress is slow. The sad thing is that unless they make an official announcement that they changed the shipping company I will never know as I don't order any more

Re: Gaah! Very pissed off! [Next Direct import charges]

I never had problems ordering from Next when they still used DHL. However, with the new carrier AAS (I called them ASS by accident ... or intent), they added their fees of 25.-- to the invoice amount and then decided I was above the 60.-- free limit and charged me tax. I had a huuuge argument with them, after more than a months of email correspondence I told them to return the order to Next and that they won't see a single penny from me.

I also told Next that any decent company manages to charge VAT up front to avoid the ridiculous taxation fee of 20.-- or 25.--, and they told me "they would look into it". Sure thing, yeah.

Until then I will buy from Carter's instead, even though there stuff isn't as cute as Next's.

Re: Gaah! Very pissed off! [Next Direct import charges]

This may be if interest to all you Next shoppers out there. Apparently they are going to cover import fees and taxes.
Not sure how that's going to work, it could end up costing them a fortune ( although the disclaimer leads me to believe that they will only pay the fees if you are actually below the taxable limit and still get charged fees as seems to have happened to a lot of people)

Well, if that is the case, we can truly call it an EF result brilliant - amazing what a phone call to the person in charge and a few e-mails can do, wow. It works much better I suppose than just having a good moan here (although I'm sure that is helpful in other ways).

I'll order next week, just to see how it works - hurrah.

Do report back if you order and see how it goes.
