| | Re: Gaah! Very pissed off! [Next Direct import charges]
Just a quick update here: after a blissfull 18 months of fast, free delivery with no customs charges, Next Direct appears to have changed their shipping company to i-parcel, a company that belongs to UPS and they have managed to lose my parcel. I ordered several items on August 4th in time to wear at a music festival that starts tomorrow - I started chasing the missing parcel last week, only to be told that it has been marked as lost and if I still wanted the items, I would have to re-order them myself.
Normally I am not too bothered about stuff coming a bit late (which is why I didn't even check the tracking information until last week), but in this case, it's really upsetting that they've lost my parcel. Having gained weight due to stress and dealing with grief, none of my normal summer clothes fit and shopping in Switzerland is just not an option - my size is typically unavailable and I would not be seen dead in the stuff that does fit. So no, I can't just pop down to the shops and buy something else instead. The weather report announces 4 days of 30 degrees, so my usual jeans and t-shirt or fairly restrictive, warm office gear (only stuff that does fit) is simply not an option.
Summing up - when order, keep a close eye on where your parcel is and if it is suddenly stuck in the same location for more than two days, follow up with Next right away. That way, if you do need something for a certain date like I did, you at least have a better chance of getting it than I will. Meanwhile, I will be running around the shops at lunchtime tomorrow, hoping against all hope that there is something I can wear.

It is really matter of luck , last week bought something online for 65 CHF and paid 26 CHF import custom , today got my second order which was for 120 Euro and no custom at all !
i asked the postman why i should pay 26 CHF for the first order, and he told me that all the receivers are not happy and many of them start to received their orders at the German side ( near to the boarder ) to avoid any tax.

Well, as from 1st January 2017, everyone will have to pay import duties, some Swiss "Elite" members have decided to remove the 62.50chf franchise.
Source: https://translate.google.com/transla...%2F&edit-text=
Bottom line: everyone will have to pay the "custom clearance" costs (average 20chf+ for many of these companies). Yes even for the occasional chinese gadget worth a few francs! | This user would like to thank CorsebouTheReturn for this useful post: | |

If your order total was 50chf when the threshold is roughly 64/66chf, then there could be an error. What is the reason for the charge?
I`ve had two such charges cancelled. One was similar, I was over the threshold because Next incorrectly completed a form i.e. they forgot to tick the box indicating no delivery charge, so Freight services made up their own and added it on to what I spent bringing me over the tax free threshold..
On another occasion they tried to charge me some "very special" tax as a dress I`d ordered for my daughter aged 1 at the time had a crochet hem and apparently the presumed material used is taxed differently. But I was being charged as though the whole dress was made from it, and then they added their admin & Vat charges on top. They eventually cancelled the fee after numerous calls. Back then though, the items were delivered and one could sort out the miscellaneous charges afterwards. It is indeed annoying that you now have to pay in advance to receive the package!!
I would go back to them and ensure that the charge is legit. Sometimes it takes a few calls but it`s worth ensuring you`re not being taxed incorrectly. They have to explain why/how you`ve ended up over the threshold.
Good luck!

Hmm the translation of that article is awful, I'll wait until an English version pops up.

Hi Cazimody and welcome to a forum where even old threads from years ago are still active and are regulary updated. Much better to have all in one place than everything spraweled all over.

Also, I find Ulla Popken horrendously expensive for what it is, even if there is the odd nice thing, but then the cut is usually all wrong. Like I said, I have checked the shops here thoroughly and have basically given up on buying anything in Switzerland. Occasionally C&A can work, but again, whoever makes the fabric and pattern decisions (especially the former) should maybe reconsider their choice of career. Phase Eight is the only reliable place but let's get real, their clothes are way too dear to wear at an event where drunk people with beer cups and cigarettes in their hands will be dancing in a crowd.
As for those paying duties on orders from Next Direct - that should not apply, they specifically advertise free delivery with no customs charges. Or are you referring to a different company delivering items? Because there is a whole separate thread on import duties in particular. Maybe this one needs to be renamed "Shopping experiences with Next Direct" since the inital reason for starting this thread is resolved AFAIK?

Even if there hadn't been any recent posts: This forum prefers revived threads over seeing the umpteenth thread on subject XYZ.
