Hi Everyone, I just wanted to share a very disappointing experience with TSR Movers (owner Edin Kilim) in Basel. I moved last month and had a very stressful move where I only received the keys to my new flat late afternoon and I had to hand over the keys to my old flat by noon the next day. In addition although I had been in my old flat for 10 years I was still required to do an intensive cleaning before key handover. Kilim suggested that he would arrange the cleaning for me, and suggested that he bring 4 people to clean at 50CHF/hr each, and they could start cleaning immediately as furniture was being moved out. Little did I know that these 4 people were going to continue to clean for 11.5hr! I was shocked when I was informed that I owed 2300CHF just for the cleaning!! My old flat was only 107 m2 and this cleaning cost was more than one month rent!!. Stupidly I paid in full since I was so stressed with my key handover as it was now only 30min away! You are probably asking why I did not ask for a quote for the cleaning? Well I did but at the time when I was getting a quote for the move and cleaning I though I only needed a sweep cleaning and the quote suggested 2 people for about 4 hours. And I did not know at the time that Kilim's wife was running the cleaning company. Well, lesson learned for me. Next time I will go for the bigger moving company as my quote from Settelen was very similar for the move and was only 1200CHF for the intensive cleaning. I only went with TSR since they had such a great review on Basel English Forum. When I rechecked this review after this happened I noted that the review was dated from 2009! Next time I will pay closer attention. I can't say that TSR was so great with the move and certainly I feel really taken advantage of with the cleaning cost and so I wanted to share my story to ensure that this doesn't happen again to someone else. I'm now settling into my new place a whole lot poorer but a great deal wiser!!

Wow, 46 hours to clean an apartment. That's more than ridiculous.

I've used TSR, no problems at all.
My friend was moved by them only last month.
Again no problems, and about half the price of the next cheapest quote.


Your gripe should be with the cleaning company, not TSR.

Thanks for your reply and you raise a good point that my grief should be with the cleaning company and not TSR, however I have no direct contact with the cleaning company since it was organized by Kilim (TSR) and the original 4 hour quote was part of my moving quote. I wished circumstances could have been different and please note that I only want to avoid that this could happen to someone else. Next time, I will get separate quotes from cleaning companies and not let my movers handle the cleaning.

Depends on how much there was to clean.

I don't know why people go through the grief of getting the apartment cleaned themselves/by a 3rd party.
Makes more sense to use the landlords cleaning company if you want control over the bill, or just wait for the bill from the landlord afterwards.

Coming back to your 11.5 hours though.

I thought a quote should be the price you pay, whereas an estimate can run over?
