Whilst the pool is politically neutral looking at the discussion made me laugh. Why do so many people have the obsession of having a Swiss pet (friend)? Friendship is beyond nationality, race, age.... This is funny as in the developed areas the Swiss nationals are the minority so they must feel terrible about all the bloody foreigners hunting for them "Oh, you're Swiss, so cute, I'd like you to be my friend

Go out, hang with likeminded people and be happy
haha, that was quite fu...wait a minute...Leszek? That does not sound Swiss at all,
That was not funny. Please prevent from any humorous attempt in the future.

Any real Swiss around who wants to be friendled?

PS: no zurcher or genevians, I am after decent speaking people and I'm not desperate.

When we left our home country, I lost a friend of 20 years from school, and we were Godparents to her boy and very 'bestie-close' friends. Even though in the first year away I wrote emails and newsletters, soon after we received a 2 line email saying that we were no longer Godparents due to the distance and they did not want to see us when we returned for holidays every other year. People usually like stability.
Wow! really?! Where are you from that people behave like that, especially "besties"? I can see one point of view (...and I'm really pushing the boat out here) where they would like more of a physical presence from you as godparents to their child...but to say they no longer even want to see you when you come back on holiday and stuff??? I think you're well rid of people who think that way, what did you ever do to deserve that treatment.

Are they permaybe just a wee bit jealous that you have grasped an oportunity to live in a foreign land per chance?

Nope, it must have been the Lada key ring on our car keys that kept them at bay

Your post was really funny, I like it. But on a more serious note.... many folks write here in a highly emotional state.. ( in this case - frustrated, bored, feeling lonely in a foreign land, etc etc. ) I don't believe they're obsessed or "hunting" a pet friend, but at one point or another people want to mix more with the locals, I think it's just normal.

Yes, true, but see the explanation above.

Re: How long did it take you to make friends here?

working place is the first source of friendship to me.
Making swiss friends, might be a bit harder..more for the language than anything.
Though you might find mind many swiss people looking to improve their foreign language knowledge : )
