Re: Switzerland: The most BORING place. WARNING: Long complaining rant...

The question is not whether you are right or wrong (many of us will recognize your points taken individually), but why you care so much.
Why does it get to you so much to experience the country you describe? Do you have to care that much? Can't you make your own life around it by avoiding the worse part of what you describe, dealing with the less horrible aspect and discover new and more positive aspects?

I had to hear a LOT of crap for being German from Swiss people. A LOT. But I care more about my own business than the enlightenment of a country that in my opinion needs a lot of work on that topic. As soon as they talk about Germans, I shut down, walk away, or make fun of them. It's the same experience as yours, but for me, it becomes either a ten seconds issue before going away or a fun game where I just provoke the Swiss to an absurd level with no intention of having a serious conversation anyway.

What ever the main problems are for you, you can
- work around them
- avoid being confronted with them
- turn it into something fun because Swiss can't deal with provocation
- or even being open minded enough to discover pleasures you had no idea about before meeting Swiss people.

Very interesting post. I find equally interesting that most people here that don't share your views are just laughing you down. Very telling IMO.

So you are the only rich middle class tosser around the place?
No, I'm a rich middle class tosser for a start and I certainly wouldn't be seen in the same social circles as Breakfast I can assure you.

If I had it my way you wouldn't see him on a train. Poor people can bloody walk.

God, they get right up your nose, don't they ? We'll be finding them in Manor next, eating our food. Whatever next ? They'll want to vote or something else best left to us Richies.

Re: Switzerland: The most BORING place. WARNING: Long complaining rant...

To make things simple:

Switzerland is the most wonderful place in the world ever. If you don't like it here you should bugger off - but please do so without whittering on all day about why you find inferior to the place you grew up in (and left) and/or just came from (and left).

Meanwhile my annoyance with this country is that too many people shuffle themselves off this mortal coil by buggering up public transport - or death by SBB!!

Funny enough I bumped into my other (Itallien) neigbour for the first time in 2years and the first thing he did was complain to me how boring it was here! - lack of culture and life!
This is sad because if he had spoken to you 2 years ago, he wouldn't have find it boring.

My point is: if your neighbor is at home moaning how boring this is here and you are doing the same, no connection is created. You have to get out there!!

Amazing first post! It makes me missing the warm of my home country and the people. And the weather today in ZH doesn't really help
Maybe you just can't find your heart here yet, despite your OH being a Swiss. I share some of your points and so do some people here. But as said by other posters, we try to make it work or just live with it.

I wish it was boring, my body and mind can't take it anymore... I need a break from socializing. Theres not enough time to do all the hobbies I have either. I want it to rain for the next three months so I can just get stuff done. Bah...

Re: Switzerland: The most BORING place. WARNING: Long complaining rant...

zombieswiss amen to you! havent heard truer words in a long time. I was hesitant to move here from london, but the realities are actually much worse. as beauty is skin deep, so is the facade os switzerland. Swiss are generally materialistic xenophobes but are not able to see it themselves which really gets me. Boring doesnt begin to describe it, just more universally with no zeal for culture outside their village mentality and nationalism. And dont let the swiss reputation of excellence fool you, food is shocking and extortionate, the quality of services equally bad.

a good example was my company providing me with a relocation agent here. they charged thousands as a flat fee ( i felt sorry for my compamny being taken for a ride). this agent got me two views over two weeks, and not on weekends. this kind of professionalism would be laughed at in england, and these 'agents' wouldnt have a job within a day.

i know some people like a paternal rule driven society, then this is the place for them. Luckily i have no friends or acquaintances of this sort.

I could go on but am being moved by the new year, so have no more need to get this off my chest.

Ha haaa! I'm from Ohio! (Just south of Detroit, to be exact). I can assure you, the city where I was born and raised (in Ohio) is much less predictable than anywhere in Switzerland that I've ever been. But not necessarily in a good way.

Re: Switzerland: The most BORING place. WARNING: Long complaining rant...

Hi Zombie, I'm also Canadian and I will be moving to Vaud Canton in January. I have a 6 year old daughter and I wonder if we REALLY did not think this through anyhow, is there any advice for new-comers? is there anyplace to avoid or not avoid in order to feel more at ease? I am a french-speaker, will that help?

Best Regards
