Stranger Knocking my Door and Talking Rudely

Hi, there, I am a forum member, benefiting from the discussion here for a long time and would like to get some (legality) perspectives on a minor issue that just happened to me.

In the evening, two strangers knocked at my door and my wife opened it. Then I start hearing they asking questions in a rude manner, something about health insurance. After a while, I went to the door, interrupted and asked for their ID card, and then closed it. The card says "Life Service Marketing". Does anybody have experience with them? Do we have to take cautions about these guys?

I would also like to know some more general perspectives on strangers come to an apartment door. By swiss-law, do we have legal responsibilities to open the door, in any case? Does a note "no knocking blabla...." stop these actions by law? If they start to talk in a bad manner, what more serious legal actions can we take besides closing the door?

Just say a bad word and close the door, they just want to sell you something.

If you understand french, they are mentionned on here http://www.bilan.ch/economie-les-plu...du-porte-porte

Next time, ask who they are first before opening the door. Mind you, even Jehovah Witnesses once knocked on my door on Saturday morning

Re: Stranger Knocking my Door and Talking Rudely

Door knocking and selling have not yet been over-abused here, as in other lands, and some people aren't as unreceptive as they should be.

I don't know if your wife is Swiss, but I know that my Swiss wife - and female members of her family - have the greatest difficulty in saying no, turning these people away and closing the door ..... in case they may offend.

Door knockers rely on such people and their own sternness to divert the situation to their own ends.

Did I mention, that I used to do door knocking (in UK)?

And thank god for that. When I lived in spain they would knock all the time, always asking for the wife in the family trying to sell something and/or beg for money. I learned from my Spanish friends that asking "who's there" is the first step to any door opening and if you dont like what you hear, just dont open and they will leave you alone.

I find it very intrusive and uncomfortable, i want to be left alone in my own home.

keep a shotgun by the door. loudly rack the slide to discourage unwanted visitors.

keep loaded shotgun trained on visitors throughout the discussion to ensure that it doesn't last longer than necessary.

I see the same behaviour from many Swiss who are stopped by chuggers
